Addiction Treatment Options Humbly Explained

May 25, 2008
When a person finds him or herself unable to stop using a drug they are called addicts. If a person is truly physically dependant on a drug there is a solution, a helping hand, this comes in addiction treatment. Addiction treatment can allow a participant to bring themselves out of their drug related problems and find an environment that they can feel safe in while striving to free themselves from drug use.

There is a type of addiction treatment in existence for any type of addiction imaginable. Each is unique in its form of treatment, but they each strive to meet the same goal. That goal is to help guide the individual seeking treatment to a drug free healthy life style.

It is common for an addict to not realize that they have a problem when it is obvious to everyone else. In these cases in may be necessary for an intervention to take place. An intervention is when the family and friends of the addict come together to confront the addict as a single force. The goal is to convince the addict that they have a problem and should seek treatment. Interventions have proved very effective in the past. For those who have willing people around them the success rate is very high. Ninety two percent of all addicts confronted in the form of an intervention have partaken in treatment.

One of the most common forms of addiction that is also the most ignored is alcoholism. Alcoholism may not be considered a chemical dependency, but those addicted to it may still feel themselves physically unable to do without the drug alcohol. Some severe long standing alcoholics that attempted to stop drinking without aid suffered from physical drawbacks such as illness.

In order to slowly bring addicts out of their addiction, while teaching them how to deal with the deprecations of their actions a twelve step program has been created. The courses involved are designed to help the addict accept that they have a problem and teach them how to deal with their problem over the course of a few years.

Detoxification is the method of cleaning the addict's body of the substances without the drawbacks that could harm the addict. Detoxification will always been the first step to ending addictions after the addict realizing there is a problem. Some addicts hooked on drugs such as heroin, methadone, and various prescription drugs must be medically supervised during detoxification. Their vital signs must be monitored as medication is administered. There are several symptoms that can occur during detoxification. Sweating, headaches, cramps, vomiting, nausea are just some or the possible symptoms.

There are two drugs that are commonly used for the purpose of relieving detoxification symptoms. Klonepin relieves a patients physical symptoms while Buprenophex, is used as an anticonvulsant. As these drugs are administered the patient must be closely monitored. Detoxification usually lasts any where between three to seven days.

Addicts may not realize the harm they bring to all that care for them. Those who begin taking drugs may not realize how easily addiction can occur. These addiction treatments are the easiest ways for these addicts to find relief and safety. The addict can find a new life with a low risk of relapse.
