Low Budget Wedding Ideas - Your Great Day Needn't Cost The Earth

May 26, 2008
It's little wonder that people get stressed when they think about arranging their wedding: there's relatives and friends to consider, a multitude of things to arrange, a thousand decisions to make, and that's even before we get down to considering what the whole things is going to cost. The average cost of wedding these days is around about 25,000 dollars - a significant sum for anyone to come up with. However it isn't always necessary to spend the entirety of your savings on a wedding and for anyone interested in pursuing a low budget wedding, there are a number of options that you can pursue. This article will examine the different areas in which you can cut costs when doing your cheap wedding planning.

Cheap Wedding Reception
The biggest savings that can be made when planning low budget weddings are with the reception. If you want a cheap wedding, this is where you may have to start, firstly by reducing the numbers on the guest list. Reducing the number of people who attend, including distant relatives or friends you haven't been in contact with for years, will save an enormous amount. You could even consider carrying out some of the catering yourself and have a hot and cold buffet style meal instead of a four courses.
It is also possible to choose a cheaper wedding reception venue than the local golf club or hotel. Using a small club for example will mean the drinks bill will be less by only catering for wine, beer and soft drinks at the bar.

Low Cost Wedding Gowns
The wedding dress is one obvious area where huge amounts of money are spent but as this is something that will only ever be worn once, a previously owned dress is worth consideration. The huge cost of a new wedding dress cannot always be justified. Many bridal shops carry a large range of previously owned dresses that can be hired or bought for considerably less than new. There is no doubt that a bride wants to sparkle on her big day but there is no reason why she cannot do so in a previously worn dress.

The venue of the wedding reception can also be somewhere less expensive than the local golf club or hotel; using a small club for example will mean the drinks bill is less by only catering for wine, beer and soft drinks at the bar.

Wedding Photographs and Photographers
As far as the photographer is concerned, why not hire one only for the service. Most guests will take their own cameras and will be happy to take photos at the reception and of course you will have plenty to choose from. You could take this idea one step further and not bother with the expense of a photographer at all; why not ask your guests to take photos of the occasion all day?

Online Personalized Invitations
If you're on a budget and looking for less expensive wedding stationery items, then you might want to look print-at-home stationery. There are many online stationers that will offer this service free of charge and all you will be required to pay for is the paper and envelopes. You may not feel comfortable using your home computer at first but this is a very productive use of your time as adjustments and corrections to suit your requirements can be made without any visits to the printers.

Wedding Flowers
Flowers can be another expensive outlay especially with the cheaper alternatives on offer; why not buy wholesale flowers, or pick flowers from your garden and buy plain gold or white gold bands as these are the least costly. Wedding cakes are another costly item but this can easily be made by a friend. These days, people often experiment with fillings that aren't reliant on fruit.

The Wedding Transportation
Luxury limousines, although impressive, are costly so ask someone you know if you can use their car to make further savings. They may even own a luxury car of their own.

With a little imagination and flair the cheapest weddings can sometimes be the best weddings. There is no reason why cutting back on some costs should lead to a cutting back on the day's enjoyment.
