Causes Of Blood Pressure 101

May 28, 2008
Our bodies react differently to different stimuli, situations experiences and lifestyle habits. we react both mentally and physically and in different ways to one another. High blood pressure is a common 'reaction' people experience for various reasons. If halted early enough, it is easily amendable, however if left to progress and worsen the problems associated with it can easily increase and your experience of it deteriorate. Symptoms include headaches, the blurring of one's vision, pounding ears, the loss of sex drive, dizziness, a noticeable change in the pace of one's heart rate and most obviously and breathlessness. If you are experiencing any of these (especially if you experience them regularly), then seek medical advice immediately.

High blood pressure is also known as hypertension and can be classified as either primary or secondary. it is considered as happening when someone's systolic blood pressure is consistently 140 mmHg or more, or their diastolic blood pressure is 90 mmHg or greater.

High blood pressure can be hereditary, however there are various other causes of high blood pressure exist, these range from high sodium intake, high alcohol intake, depression, kidney abnormality, stress, low potassium intake and commonly, obesity. If ignore it can lead to strokes, heart attacks, heart failure and arterial aneurysm. There are various cures if it is treated in time and certainly things you can do to reduce you blood pressure, or risk of high blood pressure, these include; medication (after seeking advice), weight loss, quit smoking, reducing alcohol intake, exercise and ensure you are maintaining a healthy and balanced diet.

If you are worried you may be suffering from high blood pressure seek medical advice immediately.

The sodium in salt is incredibly harmful to your blood pressure. The average daily recommendation for a total sodium intake of 1500mg per day- that's not much at all. You only have to read a food label to realize that most foods contain much more salt than you would initially realize.

Again, with food too much cholesterol and saturated fats in your diet is a sure sign that you could experience high blood pressure. Your arteries become clogged and in order to pump blood round your veins and arteries, the heart has to work much much harder which in turn raises your heartbeat and blood pressure. This is very dangerous.

Stress is often a factor, which is overlooked by many people when it comes to your heart, blood pressure and health in general. But mental anguish can have affects on your blood pressure, as similarly to clogged arteries, it causes the heart to have to work harder and faster in order to pump blood round the body adequately.

If there is a family history of high blood pressure, unfortunately you are more likely to suffer from it. Many cases of high blood pressure turn out to be hereditary, but of course there are lifestyle choices you can make in order to reduce the severity of it, or even the risk that you are likely to suffer at all. These include herbal remedies and aids which are often available over the counter, a balanced diet, low alcohol and sodium intake, a good level of potassium intake, exercise, de- stressing and relaxation and not smoking.
