The top five lightest and smallest types of mobile phones in the market today are the Nokia 5300, Samsung T609, Sony Ericsson J220a, Samsung D830 and the Nokia 6030. The edge of having these very small mobile phones is the convenience of carrying it along with your other things or even gadgets. An example would be if you were also carrying your laptop with you or your books. Others regard this as a fashion trend. This is like if you are wearing tight fitting clothes and you want your mobile hanging on your neck or you just want something small enough to slide into the tiny side pocket you have. Whatever your reasons for choosing these type of mobile phones, it is surely the convenience you are after.

Different people have different tastes. Nowadays, people have become practical. They are not looking into what's new and what's hip but rather on the features they can work with. Large screened mobile phones that are about medium sized made it through the market these last few years because most of them were built with the 3G technologies. Tri-band and Quad-band phones became the centre of desire for most teenagers and young professionals alike. Thus, since more people now are attuned to a very busy lifestyle and are always in a rush to go some place and deal with errands or things that need to be done, bulky and large mobile phones don't have become a dilemma to people who are always on the go. One factor would be the very easy way these mobiles can get snatched or stolen. Other factors would include the inability to just put it in your pocket or hang it on your neck. For practicality's sake, small mobile phones are just what the market needs these days.

Nokia 5300

The Nokia 5300, which literally weighs only 0.74 ounces, have dimensions of 3.6 x 1.9 x 0.8 inches. This flip phone have frequency bands of 850, 1800, 1900, 800, 900. It also has an internal memory of 32 MB. It has 3D graphics support, TFT display with a resolution of 240x320. Aside from this, file sharing is also possible because of its Bluetooth capability. It also has WAP 2.0, HSCD, EDGE, GPRS and infrared specifications.

The acceptable file formats would include the AAC+, M4A, MP3, mpeg4 and WMA. At the same time, this mobile has a 1.3 megapixel camera, along with a video recorder. You can also play your latest mp3 songs, or listen to the FM radio, which currently features a visual radio as well. Messaging is accomplished through sending texts, pictures, multimedia, e-mail and chat. For people who are always on the phone can actually have a talk time of about 192 minutes. This is along with a stand by time of about 223 hours. This is due to its Lithium-polymer battery that has about 860 of mAh power. Thus, the Nokia 5300 is truly an amazing addition to the more practical mobile phones being sold these days.

This phone has a stand-by time of 160 hours and actual talk time of about 192 minutes.

The Samsung D830 is a flip phone that weighs only 2.99 ounces. This is along with dimensions of 4.05 x 2.12 x 0.38. It also has an internal memory amounting to 80 MB. Its TFT colour display even has a resolution of 240 x 320. It has a Bluetooth communication capabilities, as well as GPRS, EDGE and WAP 2.0, which can even help you to share files and with your wireless connections so you can be reached anywhere in the world. It can accept mp3, mpeg4, WMA file formats and AAC, MP3 music enabled system. This also has a 2.0 megapixel camera with a video recorder. The battery's stand by time is 210 hours and talk time is 120 minutes. The battery it is using is a lithium-ion type. Lastly, the Samsung D830 is indicated to be 630 mAh-powered.

The Nokia 6030, on the other hand, is among the top f small and light mobile phones that are indicated to weigh about 3.17 ounces. This is along with a dimension of 4.09 x 1.73 x 0.71 inches. The frequency bands are 850, 1900 and it even has an analogue support, which is actually from the older versions of cellular phones. The downloadable application format is j2me.
