Outfit Your Bar With More Then Alcohol

Jun 1, 2008
A home bar can be the centerpiece of your entertainment room. Having all the necessary bar accessories makes it possible to satisfy your guests and allow you to do it with ease.

Having ample storage for all your liquor and wines is important. A wine rack can double both as aesthetic storage and help you maximize space. Modular wine racks allow you to add on or remove storage based upon the number of bottles you want on hand. Many of these racks can hang under a counter top, a cabinet or above your bar. A combination rack can also hold stemware to save cupboard space too. For maximum storage, a free standing rack can hold dozens of bottles which can be arranged by vintage or value.

Bar stools create the illusion that you are at the pub with unique seating. Some stools come with a foot rail and swivel. Older, traditional stools are slightly elevated compared to a regular chair and are fixed. Many other models are built with a swivel, have a gas lift shock that can regulate the height to the personal suiting of your guest. While the traditional model is basically made from wood with no padding, many models have cushioned seats with a variety of upholstery options. In additional refinement would include backrests and armrests for added comfort.

A pub table serves for drinks, snacks and conversation. A table can be small enough in to a small nook or large enough for a half dozen guests. Many tables, like the bar stools, come on a swivel while others come with fixed legs similar to a small dining table. Glass tops look fancy and are easy to clean but may be a hazard for damage compared to metal or wood construction.

When selecting a bar you can either choose a full bar with counter built for permanent installation or a movable version. Consider building in a sink and a beer gutter for mixing drinks and maintain cleanliness. You can choose to build it in sections for portability or in one piece. Cabinetry can be built in to allow storage for liquor, an overhead rack for stemware or wine or other bottle liquors and even a refrigerator.

Some other handy accessories to have around include a bottle opener for beer and ales, a corkscrew for wines, a can opener and measuring cups with a spoon set for precise mixing for reciped drinks. A juice squeezer, electric blender, cutting board with a knife, a muddler and a cocktail shaker is essential for martini and other drinks. An ice bucket with tongs to keep the ice sanitary for cold drinks is a must.

And lastly a napkin holder or organizer to hold napkins, coasters, swizzle sticks, long and short straws, cocktail picks and sugar and salt for rimmer drinks is a must. Rounding out accessories, you should have a muddler, a vegetable peeler or twist cutter for fruit peels an ice scoop, funnel, nutmeg grinder and an ice crusher preferable electric.
