How to Get Your Ex On The Phone

Jun 4, 2008
After the big ordeal that is your breakup, it is only natural that your ex will be somewhat evasive and hard to get on the phone. If you ever want to get him back, you will have to find a way around that. Leaving just the right message on his voicemail or answering machine can really make him want to call you back...and it is pretty easy to do if you have the right plan!

First, I will give you a short list of a few of the things you DO NOT want to do (and probably already have!). Do not worry too much if you have already fallen into one of these traps, you can still get him back with a bit of effort. It does make things more complicated though, so try to avoid finding yourself in a situation where you are:

--Begging him to come back, because without him your life is empty and useless. Even if this is how you feel the Plea as it is called does NOT help your case any. Pleading for him to come back into your life just makes you look weak and like someone he is glad to be out from under.

--Acting like it is a life-or-death emergency that he call you back. Even if you do feel like life itself hangs in the balance, you cannot act that dramatic. Getting your ex back has to be done carefully, and if there is that much drama flying around, all that will do is drain any patience your ex has left and drive him away.

--Leaving an hour-long message on his voicemail confessing your every emotion like the guy in a romance movie who messed up with his girl and somehow manages to make it all better with one tear-jerking speech. This only works in the movies, and in real life your ex rarely even listens to the whole thing. It is excessive drama, and it gets you nowhere...even if you really feel everything you're saying.

Those are all ways to make sure he DOES NOT call you. To make him WANT to call you, you need to utilize two of the oldest motivators in human nature: curiosity and self-interest. These have been used by everybody from businesspeople to world leaders, because they are effective for directing attention like nothing else is.

Try something along the lines of:

-Hey, its me. I just wanted to say thanks...what you did for me really turned my life around. I would appreciate it if you would give me a call, I would love to be able to thank you in person.-

Given this sort of line, your ex will hardly be able to keep from grabbing the phone. He will wonder, what was it he did? How did he help you? What does all this have to do with him? Getting him to ask himself questions like that will be sure to get him on the phone and put you in a good position.

But stop right NOW! Once he calls back, it is vital that you have a plan for exactly what you are going to say...going into this without an overall strategy could ruin your chances entirely, so do not risk it!
