What To Look For When Choosing Your Poker Chips

Jun 6, 2008
Description: How to shop and what kind of Poker Chips are best for you? Review the maintenance required and should take for your Poker Chips.

While gambling, too much money creates confusion and makes the game messy. To avoid the problem, Poker Chips or tokens have come into existence to keep track while gambling and replace cash during the game. Poker Chips were also called clay chips, as previously they were made of pure clay. Due to a lack of durability, now they are not made of pure clay but are mixed with some synthetic material for durability. In the 1800's, clay composite sets were very popular, but today we can rarely find them as they are more expensive and less durable.

Most popular poker chip sets used today are of plastic, clay composite, and acrylic. From 1930's, chips were decorated with metal foil for durability and security, and from the 1940's they were printed from the center and along the edges.

From the 1950's, most casinos have their own copyrighted design and materials used for the Poker Chips. They are produced by a few specially appointed companies in the USA only. Their secret blend of dyes and material, i.e., combinations of synthetic polymer acrylic composite, clay, or kaolin, help the casinos avoid counterfeiting and provide extra security. They have their own design or logos printed on the poker chip sets, making their chips unique and different from any other. All casinos have their own unique colorful designs or logos on their poker chip sets.

For home, metal core or plastic poker chip sets are used for gambling. Plastic Poker Chips are light-weight and can be damaged easily. They are less expensive, can be bought any time from anywhere and in any quantity. Plastic poker chip sets are available in stores easily and are best for beginners or for people who play occasionally.

The metal core chip sets are heavier, and can be customized by changing design, color scheme, and by printing a logo or image on top of the chip. This adds up to giving the special casino feel to the chip. For people who play regularly, metal core chip sets or clay composite are preferred as they are more durable and give the casino look and feel.

Poker chip sets can also easily be found on the Internet. While placing your order, companies first send you a sample chip and then, on your confirmation, send the full order. To buy the best Poker Chips, a casino is the best place to shop. These will be of much better quality than those of stores, plus you can also trade them back any time for money in the casino or even play with them.

Regardless of whether you are buying your poker chip sets from a store, the Internet or a casino, they should be kept safely when not in use. If they are bought from a casino, additional care should be taken, as they are expensive and worthy pieces. During a poker session, the chips should be safely in a poker chip set with lock and key.

Mostly, you can get a poker chip case as a complimentary gift while placing your order; if you didn't get, then make an effort to buy it. If you buy separately, look for a case made of hard wood or metal, with a reliable lock and a soft interior lining to protect chips and cards. For heavy poker chip sets, plastic or vinyl cases can be damaged easily and do not provide the protection required.

When you are planning to invest in a poker chip set, make sure you get the best quality at affordable rates and that you have enough chips to accommodate a number of players. Store them in a reliable poker chip set and enjoy the game with lots of fun and excitement.
