Using Coat Racks As Decorative Pieces

Jun 6, 2008
Coat racks have been around for ages and for the most part have given way to closets and other out of the way places. They do however provide a wonderful decorative touch to entryways that should not be missed. Whether or not a coat rack works for your decorating theme is up to the style of your décor. There are a number of different designs that coat racks come in but they do tend to look better in more traditional rather than contemporary designs.

Coat racks however can also make a charming conversation piece and they add something to spaces without getting in the way. There is a variety of different types as well so you can easily choose a design that works for you. Coat racks also do not have to be an entryway item. They also make great decorative pieces for other rooms as well.

Consider using coat racks in children's rooms. Wall mounted coat racks provide an excellent space for children to place their clothing, hats, jackets or a variety of other hanging items. Some wall mounted coat racks even come with shelving so that you can easily store things above the hooks. They even make freestanding coat racks in primary colors to make them fun for children's rooms.

Most people do not realize how versatile the designs are for coat racks. They come as trees. These are the racks that are typically thought of in traditional designs. They can have a wide or narrow base with curved or straight bars to hang your coat and hat on. They can also come with umbrella stands. These are also typically thought of designs.

Racks that have umbrella stands are going to be considerably more ornate for the most part. Though there are some modern designs with umbrella stands it is primarily the more traditional Victorian style designs that contain umbrella stands.

Other coat racks to consider are hall trees. Hall trees come in a variety of styles some look like regular coat racks but are flatter on one side so they can sit flush up against the wall while others fallow the more traditional design. Normally hall trees come with a bench. They are designed for a place to sit to take off your coat, hat, and shoes as well as a place to put these items when you have removed them. Some even come with mirrors to allow you a last minute check before heading out the door. Hall trees are typically used in entryways.

They can however, be used in any room of your home that has room. They are a considerably sized piece of furniture. Hall trees almost always come with a coat rack. They also tend to follow more traditional designs and fit with more traditional decorating options. This may be because they are made primarily of wood and follow a fairly strict design guideline. There are some designs however that will work well for blending natural and modern designs.

Another thing to consider is wall mounted coat racks that can be placed anywhere in order to provide an out of the way place to put coats, jackets, and hats.
