Colored Contact Lenses: Seeing the Possibilities

Jun 6, 2008
If you would like to change your eye color to match your outfit or even your mood, consider colored contact lenses. It doesn't matter whether or not you actually need vision correction. Colored contact lenses are available with many bright colors to choose from.

At the moment, it's believed that very few contact lens users realize that they're possible candidates for colored contact lenses. Many of them don't know that there has been a large increase in the availability and color choices for colored lenses. Even when they do realize it, most are hesitant at first to give colored contact lenses a try.

But this shouldn't be a cause for concern. The new color can be a slight or a big departure from your original eye color, and that is partly what makes trying out colored contact lenses a lot more fun.

If you want colored contact lenses and don't need to correct your vision, it will still be necessary for you to visit an eye doctor to get a prescription for them. A plano prescription is the type of prescription you will receive - this is what the prescription is called when no vision correction is necessary.

It states how wide and how curved each eye is and is meant to ensure that you get properly fitting lenses. Of course if they are not right for you, it won't be hard to tell. The discomfort you experience will be painful and unremitting.

Unfortunately, there is the wrong assumption that color contacts which are not used for correcting vision can be shared with other individuals. You would be smart to avoid doing this. You should never wear someone else's contact lenses or let them wear yours.

Contact lenses are custom fitted for the wearer so they may be the wrong size for another person. And not only that, lenses may contain bacteria that could cause serious infection or irritation if they haven't been properly cared for and cleaned.

Many choices are available within the realm of colored contact lenses, so it is vital to know what the possibilities are.

For instance, to completely change your eye color, opaque contact lenses are needed. Aside from those that completely change your eye color, you'll also find other types of tints which are not necessarily designed to change the color of the eye.

By having a visibility tint on your contact lenses, your lenses are much easier to see and handle. Clear contact lenses, when dropped, will look nearly invisible against any background and become rather difficult to find.

Colored tint lenses, however, are more visible to the eye and are therefore easier to locate after you have dropped them. Enhancement tints have a stronger tint that can even intensify and enhance a person's natural eye color.

Lots of people who play outdoor sports prefer lenses that provide UV/UB ray protection. The special tints on these lenses can minimize glare in order to aid vision and improve performance.

There's also a brand of colored contact lenses that can darken to a protective shade when the light is bright enough, and then shift back into clear mode when the wearer goes indoors.
