Essential Care For Fresh Tattoos

Jun 7, 2008
Immediately you are done with your new tattoos, the tattoo artists will give you information on the proper way to handle your new tattoo. It is customary nowadays for tattoo parlors to supply you with an information sheet filled with tips on how to take the right care of your tattoo. Two rules are usually common in all cases, never pick at your scabs when they start to form and moisturize but do not do so excessively.

If you do, not only do you put yourself at a higher risk of infection but there is a good chance that you will pick off some of the ink and ruin your new tat. Basically, as long as you follow these three points, you should be okay. Do not listen to what other people told you about their methods of caring for tattoos and do not make up the rules as you go along.

A lot of people get one tattoo and decide to mix up the rules when they get another one. Regardless of whether you have used something which you developed a reaction to, you are better of contacting the tattoo artist and asking for what you can substitute it with. A patch test on your skin before you get a tattoo may be a good idea to see whether you develop a reaction.

Another problem is that various tattoo artists have their own ways which they recommend you should take care of tattoos; the problem is that these methods vary from one tattoo artist to the next and this tends to become a problem. While a particular artist may recommend the use of Neosporin, another might recommend that you powder your bed before you go to sleep. Some would recommend mild baby soap in order to wash the tattoo or other such methods etc.

Certain other individuals will suggest that you use a number of different ointments and lotions. Some will say that the Tea Tree Oil (toner) from the Body Shop is the best because of its healing powers or that the cheapest form of tattoo treatment is Vaseline Intensive Care.

If you stay in an area that is dry the chances are that you'll be using a lot of lotion anyway so you can opt for a large pump bottle of lotion in order to get the best bargain. This will help you forestall any problems and take proper care of your tattoo.

There is so much contradiction from one studio to the next when it comes to body art healing and it can be quite confusing. However, there are legitimate reasons why there are so many different opinions out there. Some of the ways to properly care for your new tattoo have already been discussed but there are many other ointments and lubes designed just for tattoos but most are just commercialized versions of what was advised to use earlier.

There is a plausible reason for the variety of ways to take care of your tattoo; this is because of various improvements in technology and a variety of products that have become available in the marketplace. Petroleum jelly was a largely popular product in the past due to the fact that it was widely available, inexpensive and did the task rather well. However ever since then it has been discovered that products which are petroleum based tend to drain the color from tattoos and they possess no healing powers.
