Jun 7, 2008
Everybody, and I mean everybody, sleeps more than we realize and you might not even be aware that the average person, just like you, spends 25 years in bed. A lot of sleep for some!

Yet we all are humans, so let's indulge in a refreshing and cooling sleep - treat yourself with those calm and quiet summer nights when only you know how it feels to slide under a beautiful cool duvet and breathe the gentle breeze coming in from the open window.

And can you hear our beloved robin twittering in your garden early in the morning as you snuggle even more under the sensuous duvet, still pleasantly cool; and there's no thought of sweating even if it's one of the warmest nights?

Could you imagine yourself jumping out of bed every morning eager to start the day bursting with energy and vitality, because from now on you can savour every minute of your "bed-time"?

So what is the Secret to a Good Night's Sleep in summer?

Close your eyes and sleep like a baby - after a day full of exciting moments with your body and mind in balance - well, for some, this could sound like a great piece of art!

You might have heard that a good sleep is not only about the time spent in bed. You can now buy a luxurious duvet set with the lightest siberian goose down and if you follow the basic rules of the healthy and balanced life style, your good night's sleep may be a few winks away!

So what could ensure that you always sleep well, fully enjoying every moment of your night's rest, even in a hot summer?

And go on ... keep it up in the winter as well, your body might just thank you, with less fatigue, aches and pains and you might even enjoy many more years of retirement!

#1 Keep active during the day

It's simple: sweat in the gym so you can sleep blissfully in bed. Every day spend at least 30 mins doing any physical activity you like: cycling, walking, jogging, gardening or dancing - you name it. Moreover, sports help you get into really good mood and you will soon start feeling fit.
What it also means is that when you do fall asleep, then your sleep is so much more deep, meaning you wake up with even more energy.

#2 Calm down in the evening

Your mind and your body need a rest other than just pure sleep. After a busy day, you should settle down and chill out - even on a balmy summer's evening!
Put on some soothing music, pick up a good book or just a take a walk in the park and look at nature - you could be amazed at what you see, hear and smell!

#3 Create a welcoming environment

When your bedroom just exudes a feeling of relaxation, it is almost impossible not to feel calm yourself - furniture and lighting can be in perfect harmony, making the bedroom quiet and dark, creating an environment where you can easily fall asleep. You can even use a suitable scent to wind down.

If you really want to go the whole hog, you might pop down to the local bookshop and pick up something on Feng Shui!

#4 Enjoy eating and drinking

Although it's vital to drink lots of liquids during summer months, limit intake of foods that contain a lot of water such as watermelon, and beer late at night - well maybe just occasionally we can all have a few too many! While you should eat light meals in the evening, don't make the mistake of going to bed hungry by skipping dinner completely.

#5 Choose the right bedding

As you see yourself snuggling under a luxury goose down duvet and you rest your head on a Siberian goose down pillow with the most sensuous feather bed mattress topper underneath you, all your cares will drift away and the silent bliss will leave you waking up feeling relaxed that you made the right decision to get now the right bedding for summer.

Plus, you might be interested to hear our suggestion that you go for 4.5 tog as this is specially designed for warm summer nights. However, there is also an option of "All Seasons" duvets which are in fact two duvets in one - a 4.5 tog duvet and a 9 tog duvet that can be joined for the winter to make a 13.5 tog duvet, separated for the summer when you can use the 4.5 tog duvet, and simply use the 9 tog duvet for spring/autumn.

When you start following these tips, you will feel really relaxed and alert every day, earning comments from your friends and you might remember deciding to follow these tips right now so that your bed really is your new haven!
