How to Stop Anxiety Attacks Before They Occur

Once you begin to learn what anxiety panic attacks feel like, you will begin to recognize the signal of an attack as it is starting. Knowing the signs that signal an anxiety attack will help you stop the attack before it occurs. We will discuss some tips to help you keep anxiety under control.

* Stop and notice what are the things that are happening when your anxiety attack symptoms begin. If you learn the what it is that is triggering the anxiety attack, you will be better prepared to stop them. An example, if you know that sometimes going into a crowded room, you have an anxiety attack, you could choose to not go into a room that is overcrowded.

* Get some fresh air. If you feel in danger of experiencing an anxiety attack, take a step outside. Sometimes more oxygen and a change in environment is all it takes to feel immediately better.

* When you feel yourself starting to get tense and anxious try to relax and take several deep breaths. Continue with the deep breaths until you feel the anxiety leave.

* If you start to sense and anxiety attack starting clear your mind and focus on something else. This could be anything from a sunny beach to a field full of flowers. You just need something to take your mind off the anxiety you are feeling.

* Share your problem with friends or family members and let them know when you are about to have an anxiety attack. You may decide on a hand gesture or other signal. Friends or family members can help distract you or support you during an anxiety attack.

* Aromas can be useful in maintaining your calm. Scented oils can promote a relaxing atmosphere and reduce your incidence of anxiety and panic attacks. Many people find chamomile and lavender particularly soothing.

* When you feel an anxiety attack coming on try writing down what you are doing. Not only will this distract you but it will also help you in future to identify the conditions that bring on your anxiety attacks.

* When you feel an anxious attack coming on, change what you are doing. For example, if you are watching TV and feel an attack coming on get up and do something else. Changing the things you are doing can stop the attacks from happening.

Anxiety and panic attacks can be hard to deal with until you learn to recognize the what is causing the attacks. Learning what is causing you to have the anxiety attacks; you will be better prepared to stop them from occurring.

Learning how to stop them at the beginning of an attack, will help you take control over your life. It will take time to learn the signs. Just be attentive to what you are doing when you feel an attack begin.

Write down this information in a journal of sorts. Then compare the information and see if you can establish a pattern. Once you know what is contributing to your anxiety attacks, you can stop them.
