While affiliate marketing programs - marketing the products of other companies on the Internet - is one of the fastest growing and potentially lucrative online business endeavors going, it is absolutely imperative that you do a fair amount of research before you jump in with both feet.

By learning everything you can about the company and the product or products you intend to sell, you not only assure yourself that the company you plan on marketing for is reputable, but you also establish yourself as having a far better understanding than the majority of your competition who simply implant affiliate codes on their web sites in the hopes of getting rich.

Once you have taken the time to ensure you are comfortable with your decision to work as an affiliate marketer for a specific company, there are four important steps that you should take in order to help you generate huge affiliate commissions from your efforts.

1. Your Website

The most successful affiliate marketers all have their own, professional appearing web sites and it is strongly recommended that you do the same. Your website will do more than just promote your affiliate product or products, it will establish you as a business entity that customers should do business with. Everything you can do to increase customer confidence will put you that much closer to an increase in sales.

2. Newsletters and Mailing Lists

When you have chosen an area of focus, start a free newsletter on that area as soon as possible and include a prominent link from the front page of your site inviting visitors to join. This will give you an email mailing list which gives you a targeted and pre-screened lead list to which you could regularly promote your affiliate programs on an ongoing basis.

3. Email Auto Responders

An auto responder makes it possible to respond immediately to customer emails even when you are not physically present when the emails are received. This can often be enough to answer the customer's immediate questions and goes a great distance in the effort to increase credibility and customer confidence in your business. Customers who don't get responses to their emails are more likely to look elsewhere for the products you are offering.

4. Write Articles

By writing and freely distributing articles on your chosen area of focus you are further establishing yourself as a recognized expert in your field, and I don't think I need to detail how this increases your credibility and sales potential. The benefit of these free articles is that each one provides a byline that includes an all-important link back to your website. The more incoming links you have, the more traffic you will see.

With the use of these rather simple yet proven success techniques, your affiliate marketing business is sure to realize a tremendous return for all of your hard work.
