How to Wipe the Slate Clean With Your Ex

Jun 11, 2008
What do you do when your ex has just broken up with you? You know this isnt where you want to be, but how do you fix it? Is it even possible to fix it? To reassure you, yes...you can fix all this and get your life back on track, but you will need a plan and the right attitude.

Forethought: where did all this come from? If you are going to succeed in getting your ex back, you are going to have to accept that there were problems in the relationship that you are going to have to be responsible for addressing. Your ex has dealt with them in his own way, leaving you...which means it becomes your problem to handle them if you want to get him back, and it will not be as simple as a quick apology.

So here are a few tips for how to wipe the slate clean and make your ex warm up to the idea of giving you a second chance. If you follow all these ideas, you will quickly find yourself in a much better situation in which your ex is more likely to take you back, or at least hear you out so that you can convince him to take you back.

1) Cut off contact, for about a month. So soon after a breakup, there is bound to be a lot of emotion flaring up and flying around, and things can be said that will never stop haunting you. Giving your ex some space gives him time to cool off and time to clear his head...gives him a chance to miss you.

2) Keep from making the classic and most common breakup mistakes: Drunk Dialing and Text Message Terrorism. Late-night, alcohol-induced loneliness could hurt your chances just as much as a bombardment of constant messages, calls, or emails. These mistakes not only defeat the point of not contacting him, they also shatter any decent image of you he may have had and drive him mental trying to avoid you...neither of which is a good thing if you want him back.

3) Use your downtime away from your ex to organize a plan, a real system for getting him back. Going into this blindly and without a plan will not end well, so even if your month of no contact is up avoid contacting him again until you are sure of what your strategy will be. Doing it this way is far more effective than trying to wing it.

Dont forget that this isnt a time to sit around and be sorry for yourself...this time away from each other is not just to keep you from messing thing up worse or to make him miss you, its also to give you room to think and devise a plan of action. With the right process carried out the right way, anything can become much more simple, even this.

Remember that you will have to do some work on this, it wont just fix itself. An apology and a kiss wont solve these problems, so you need to solve them yourself. Having a plan makes it all the easier because you know what to expect and how to deal with it. I wouldnt advise for anyone to try to get your ex back without at first thinking it through and coming up with a strategy to accomplish it.
