Frugal Life, A Better Life

Jun 12, 2008
Often people assume that someone who doesn't spend much and is stingy in matters related to money does not know what a good life is. People assume that such people have never enjoyed life and will never do in the future if they continue to be the way they are.

While we always refer to such people as stingy, we never look at the bigger picture. They are not stingy but those with an attitude of saving as much money as they possibly can. They wait for the right time to buy everything. They buy their clothes only during the sale period towards the end of the season.

They wait for the best deal and the discount season to make their purchases. They have mastered the art of being patient in matters pertaining to buying what they need. These people always wait and get the best deals and bargains because they are never in a hurry. And most importantly, these people have understood the basic fact of life that every penny saved is every penny earned.

Such thrifty people always have more spare and leisurely time in life than we do because while their needs are limited, they also need lesser money to fulfill them. Therefore, they need to work less to run their lives resulting in more free time.

Thrifty people have more time in their lives to relax and spend with their near and dear ones. And it is only because they spend less, that they need lesser time to spend whatever they do. This automatically translates into more free time for all the other things in life. Thus, they can work lesser hours if the need be and even start a work at home kind of a job, much like a retirement at your own terms.

To become a frugal person is not an impossible task. It may be difficult but definitely not impossible. Try to talk to your close ones about it and let them know that you want to become one. Go step by step. The first step towards becoming a frugal person could be to repay all your debts and credit card bills. Throw away all of them once everything has been settled. Then try to save a little money every week and put it into a bank account. Slowly this will become a habit.

A thrifty life can always be as enjoyable as anyone else's. The best part is that you'll always have as much money as you want for all the things that you really desire to have in life.
