Don't Let Fibromyalgia Keep You from Living a Healthy Life

A healthy lifestyle must include exercise, that is a known fact. If you are suffering from fibromyalgia, you may think that you can no longer have a healthy lifestyle. Exercise can still be included in your daily routine, you just need to approach it in a different way.

If you don't exercise because you have fibromyalgia, then you are one of many. Sufferers encounter days when just getting out of bed is too painful to endure. Performing your daily tasks can leave you weak. You feel like you have a chronic case of the flu, with painful muscle aches, extreme fatigue and a general feeling of malaise. Even thinking about exercise makes you exhausted.

Maybe it's you or someone you love who suffer from fibromyalgia. You or your loved ones have to deal with muscle spasms and stiff, constantly aching muscles all over your body.

Either way, you probably know already that fibromyalgia's causes are still unknown up to now. Doctors have not been able to pinpoint the cause of the disease. Sufferers may also suffer from insomnia, difficulty concentrating and bouts of depression, in addition to exhaustion and pain.

A lot of fibromyalgia sufferers think that their painful muscles and joints will be aggravated with exercise. They are so drained that they think they cannot go through any form of exercise, so most don't even try to. Actually, if you have fibromyalgia, exercise can help.

For those who haven't been exercising, they are advised to start slowly, and this advice is good for fibromyalgia sufferers as well. You should not do more than you can do. If you can only walk for three minutes initially, then stick to that. Slowly add one to two minutes every few days, and try to do his three or four times a week. The key is to be consistent.

As you begin to feel better, and studies have shown that exercise will help you feel better, you can try other forms of exercise that are specifically recommended for fibromyalgia patients. Some of these exercises include walking, biking, swimming, or water aerobics. These workouts help to improve your stamina and strength.

If you consistently exercise, you will increase your endurance and strength. Slowly, you will be able to increase the intensity of your workouts. Without spending more time, you can start to walk a little faster or swim a bit harder. You will probably start to look better even before you start to feel better, and seeing the new, healthier you is a great motivation to keep going.
