The Best Option For Low Cost Car Insurance

Jun 13, 2008
It seems that everyone is looking for good yet affordable car insurance these days. From animation to talking amphibians to satisfied customers, there is a blanket of advertising covering radio, television, and the web. Some companies even say they will give you the lowest price or tell you who can, but that is a rare occurrence. Due to all this confusion, there are people now who focus solely on finding inexpensive auto insurance.

These groups of people have made it possible for almost anyone to sit at home and get free quotes for inexpensive car insurance from a plethora of companies with familiar and unknown names. This does, however, take a great deal of time and effort on your part. If you're lucky, however, you might actually find some useful information on how to obtain Cheap Auto Insurance for yourself.

Another option that is becoming more popular recently is using a web site that will obtain quotes for you. These companies take your information and submit it to a variety of insurance companies - of their choice, naturally - which allows you to see the rates side by side and compare what you will receive from each for your money. In spite of these gimmicks, there are ways to find Cheap Auto Insurance that will guarantee you the desired coverage at the best price available:

- Make sure that you know the specifics of your vehicle. In one instance, a website asked about AWD, which can be an uncommonly known acronym. It took a few moments to discover the meaning of the acronym, All Wheel Drive. If your vehicle has any safety features (such as driver and passenger air bags or anti-lock brakes) the rate for your insurance can be lowered, but these have to be noted beforehand, not after a quote is made. Also, note that four-wheel drive vehicles are more expensive to insure than two wheel drive.

- Try to keep your commute distance down. Keeping it to a distance of less than ten miles per day is optimal. If this isn't doable, try to keep it to less than 40 miles per day. Each mile that you travel away from home not only increases your chance of an accident but also increases your insurance rate. In California car insurance rates are also determined through your distance from your home to a freeway, so keep that distance in mind.

- Get a global tracking system and/or an anti-theft device installed. These items can lower your insurance by making the vehicle harder to steal in the first place and easier to recover in the event of a theft.

- Make sure your insurance policy has a deductible. Even with a minimal deductible, your premium can be reduced. With a higher amount, your payments will drop farther, but keep in mind that this will be your up-front cost if you ever need repairs.

- Avoid extra coverage whenever feasible. Most new cars automatically come with roadside assistance, so don't pay extra for that. If you own an older car, however, this may be a good choice for you. Only you can decide what you need exactly, but remember that the cost of these extras does add up.

- Maintain a clean driving record. Since insurance companies determine premium rates based primarily on your driving record, it is very important to avoid offenses. Keeping to the posted speed limit and making sure you have plenty of time to get where you're going are two good ways to avoid tickets. Taking defensive driving and steering clear of accidents are also good practices to follow. You will save a lot of money on your insurance rates this way, so be a careful driver at all times.

- Keep your credit in good shape. Since some insurance companies are now checking into your credit, a bad report can cause you to be rejected or to pay a higher rate. Maintain a good payment history for all your accounts, including your insurance, and your rate will not be affected.

These guidelines for finding Cheap Auto Insurance are not simple to implement in some cases, but if you can follow these suggestions, the money you will save will make the effort more than worthwhile. You can drive away knowing you have more money in your pocket and better coverage for your vehicle.
