If you are thinking of starting an online business then hopefully this article will help you to avoid some of the pitfalls along the way as well as outline many of the basic strategies involved.

The trouble is, as great as the internet is, it is absolutely swamped with people trying to sell you the latest 'money making website' or 'how to' manual or ebook and there is a real danger of being overloaded with useless information. I use the term 'useless' because essentially that is what any information is (regardless of it's quality) if you never use it and it lies gathering dust on a shelf!

The key point here is clarity and focus. If you are serious about starting an online (or other) business you need some kind of a plan or blueprint to know exactly where you are going. Whether you are planning to set up your own sales website, or to become an affiliate marketer or whatever, if you don't have a plan you'll end up going round in circles, getting nowhere and probably giving up in despair.

Speaking from personal experience I know what it is like to drift aimlessly from one opportunity to the next, I wasted ten years doing this! Hopefully you will not do the same. It's all too easy to become an 'information junkie' and buy every new ebook, course, money making website and affiliate program that's offered to you. You get sucked in by flashy sales copy and the promise of instant wealth and before you know it you've blown another 100 pounds on yet another course, ebook etc.

This is a huge, almost invisible problem for 'would be' internet entrepreneurs. It sneaks up silently and snares it's victims without them even realising it and virtually everybody that is seeking to start an internet business falls into this trap.

Although the answer to this problem is obvious, it is usually overlooked and the solution to it is this: STICK TO ONE THING AND TO ONE THING ONLY! It's that simple. Stop flitting from pillar to post and focus on whatever it is you have decided to do. If you are easily distracted by new offers and the latest big thing, then unsubscribe to any opt in lists that you don't need to be part of anymore, spend less time surfing the net and more time on your project. Eliminate as many distractions as you can. Give yourself the opportunity to succeed and stop wasting your time and your money buying things!

The good news for online entrepreneurs is that people generally are lazy. They would be quite happy to pay you, to provide them with the information they are looking for, rather than do the research themselves. This opens a 'secret door' to a world of opportunity to make some huge amounts of cash! If you can provide information to a group of people that you know are already 'actively searching' for that information, then bang you're in!

There are so many advantages to selling information products, that this article would turn into a book if I where to write about them all. I will mention here only one of the many other massive advantages of the information products business. If you create an information product, you could sell it as a manual or as an audio CD perhaps. That's great, but if you were to sell your product as a digital download (e.g. an ebook) instead, then your website goes on 'auto pilot' i.e. no shipping involved, no money for postage, no extra work on your part = more profit! How incredible is that. Just take a moment to think about the possibilities here!

We have briefly touched upon the potential of selling information products. Even if you decide to sell physical products (goodness knows who would want to), the marketing principles stay the same.
