How to Use Your Make Up Tools Effectively

Jun 18, 2008
Obtaining the perfect make up look isn't as hard as it looks, assuming you pick the correct make up tools for the job. Without these kinds of tools, you'll end up spending all morning in the bathroom in front of a mirror. Of course, nobody wants to do that with a busy lifestyle! In this article I'll present some of those tools and how to use them to your benefit.

Foundation is perhaps the most important aspect of a good look. Putting on a good foundation will be your ticket to an excellent, long-lasting style that'll be sure to impress. However, unlike what some people recommend, it's not necessary to cover your entire face with foundation. Foundation should only be used in specific areas of your face that are sensitive, or are in need of some type of cover-up due to acne or other such blemishes. For most women, applying foundation to the nose, cheeks, and forehead is sufficient.

Another make up tool that should be in every make up wearer's arsenal is a make up corrector stick. This is to be used mostly for smaller corrections, such as to cover up an area of acne or other skin imperfections. You can also use a make up corrector stick to cover up "eye bags," i.e. droopiness and darkness under the eyes caused by fatigue or stress. Using a cream thin line for this is appropriate.

Something that should be pointed out ahead of time is that if you put your make up on correctly, you should have to reapply some of it after a few minutes. Why is that? Well, the foundation will take some time to be drawn into the skin and create the desirable natural look that you're trying for. In order to effectively "re-do" your make up after the foundation settles, a dust powder applicator is recommended. A dust powder applicator is easy to carry around, and only takes a few seconds to apply correctly and evenly in a small mirror. The dust powder should only be applied where you applied foundation, which again, should have been your nose, cheeks, and forehead.

Most of all, your personal make up tools should be those that suit you personally, not those that may suit someone else. Make sure your toolkit is simple, with products that you use constantly and are fresh off the shelf. Throw away old products that you don't use often; these may turn bad and cause skin problems for you down the road.

Good luck in finding the perfect make up tools that give you the look you want!
