Improving the Quality and Quantity of Sleep

Home remedies for insomnia is highly recommended if you have previous bouts of sleeplessness. Have you been in the situation wherein you wake up at around 1:30 A.M. and had been awake the whole time until early dawn? You must have been greatly bothered with the thought of inability to assume normal performance at work during the day. And worse, you are getting worried what if this continues every day? If you are one of those individuals trapped in this kind of situation, you are considered an insomniac. This condition is referred to as insomnia.

Insomnia also known as sleeplessness is defined as lack of enough sleep. Getting enough sleep is vital for effective functioning of the body since sleep is the regular state of rest of both the body and mind. Deprivation of this mental rest will result in obstruction in performing daily routine activities since the body and mind were not able to gain rest, which is highly necessary. Insomnia is a common problem of a large part of the population in North America and Europe. It is also common to occur in individuals belonging to the upper classes in the city.

While insomnia is considered a great burden to some; still it is not the best option to turn to sleeping pills in your search for ways to help induce sleep. There are many home remedies for insomnia that can be vital in helping you with your sleep predicament.

Home Remedies for Insomnia

* Mix one teaspoon of chamomile flowers, 1 teaspoon of valerian roots, 1 teaspoon hops, and 1 cup boiling water. Soak the dry ingredients in the boiling water. Drain and drink at least one hour before sleeping.

* One of the most effective home remedies for insomnia is the milk from the poppy seeds. Add enough sugar and drink a few hours before bedtime.

* Grind four nutmegs until they are of powder consistency. This powder should be taken every night shortly before you sleep.

* Add honey to a cup of milk and drink shortly before you prepare to sleep.

* After dinner, mash ripe banana then mixed in roasted cumin seeds. Eat it just like your own dessert. This is one of the proven home remedies for insomnia because the combination is effective in inducing sleep.

Other good home remedies:

* Insomnia can be treated with a warm bath, add some aromatic relaxing oils and lay in the tub for as long as you like, this will calm you and help you go to sleep.

* A well known remedy for insomnia is to drink a cup of warm milk before bed time.

* Mix apple cider vinegar and honey and eat when you can't sleep.

* Drink warm eucalyptus tea in small sips. Try to relax.

* Chamomile tea is also known to be relaxing and effective when you can't go to sleep.

* When you go to sleep take a few deep breaths and take the air out very slowly.

* Don't eat before you go to sleep, that way your stomach won't be too full.

It is greatly advisable that you observe regular fixed sleeping and waking up schedule for the body to get used in following that habit. Slightly hot shower or hot footbath may also be helpful in inducing sleep. To improve the quality and quantity of sleep, it is vital that you perform habitual active exercise at daytime and mild exercise few hours before bedtime. Every problem certainly has its own solution and one of the most effective for this predicament is the home remedies for insomnia.
