Five Ideas To Live Your Life More Economically

Jun 19, 2008
Who says that living an economical life has to be one where you have constantly stop yourself from doing everything you like. An economical life is one where you choose very carefully what you want to buy and what you shouldn't buy. It is also about an attitude where one wants to save some of their hard earned dollars rather than spending more than what you earn. And all this can be achieved by just cutting a few corners here and there in your lifestyle.

The place that all of us frequent the most is the nearby superstore. And more often than not we have a guilt feeling by the time we reach back home after a round of grocery shopping. That is because along with all the grocery items that we needed, we also bought a lot of items on impulse, something that was discounted way beyond its retail price, and more often than not, absolutely useless. The best way to avoid these useless items is by carrying a list of what all you need. Another good idea will be to tag along a friend when going to the superstore. Swap your shopping lists to eliminate the unnecessary items from entering into your shopping carts.

Thrifty people still holiday, they just do it smartly. You can literally stretch the holiday bucks by vacationing during the off-peak or off-season, although it's a better idea to verify if local attractions will be open if you want to see. Since most of a holiday budget goes to staying, why not pass your holiday visiting kin? There is the pleasure of union with kin, but you also get to live for nothing.

It is only during the off-peak season that you get the maximum discounts on the local attractions as well as on the hotel rents. It is also a good idea to go and see your relatives on a holiday. It always feels nice to get together with your loved ones and it also saves you the hotel rent.

Apparel is one of those things that civilized society has deemed essential. The apparel manufacturers, who recognize our predicament, often charge exorbitant prices. Purchasing out of season (buying winter clothes in the summer and vice versa) will help to reduce this item in your allowance. Instead of purchasing new, see your local thrift store or used-items store where rates are a much lesser than the retail (and sometimes the garments still have the original labels). An even better idea is to just swap with friends. Second hand items are a thrifty person's best friend.

Another thing that our fellow countrymen and women seem to be obsessed with are cars. We buy cars even when we don't have the money because you dream all day and night about that latest Chevy model that you saw a friend driving down the street the other day. You should drive what you already have till you can save enough money to buy that car of your dreams. Because it is only when the dealer knows that you have enough moolah in your hand that he'll give you a good discount or additional accessories.

Being a little stingy in money matters is often helpful in life. You will always have enough money in the bank and all your bills will be paid on time. By being a little prudent, you can save quite a lot of dollars and therefore fulfill your dreams at a later stage in life without having to worry about anybody snatching them from you. What else do you need, but a happy and free of tension life?
