How to Eliminate and Remove Acne Scars

Jun 19, 2008
Because some people do not realize that effective treatments are available, they suffer with acne for quite awhile and do not receive timely treatment. Unfortunately, scars can develop as a result of acne's progression from a mild case, to moderate and then to severe.

If possible, stopping the progress of your acne while still in the early stages is the best way to avoid scars. There are instances that, when left alone, acne will heal itself. In contrast, once acne progresses into the serious stage where acne cysts and nodules begin developing, the possibility of acne scaring increases.

Several treatments exist for removal of acne scars, however some scarring cannot be ameliorated or the results of treatment may only be temporary. Some treatments for scar removal may have to be repeated on a regular basis.

In advanced stages, acne spots are big and quite painful. In the event that your case becomes acute, stopping the spread through aggressive treatment is highly recommended. You should speak to either a doctor or a dermatologist quickly in order to get advice about the latest medical treatments and medications available. Talking to someone as soon as possible could mean the difference between a complete recovery and lifetime scars.

Everybody has a unique type of acne. Similar treatments can be miraculous for some and be totally ineffective for others. The same holds true for the treatments available for severe scarring caused by acne. Just like each case of acne is different, so is each case of scarring. This means the treatment must be tailored to the person. For the majority of people, a combination of treatments turns out to be the most effective.

There are six popular treatments for treating acne scaring. One or more of these treatments is sometimes used: Dermabrasion, Laser Resurfacing, Chemical Peels, Punch Techniques, Subcision and/or Augmentation.

Augmentation is when a substance, like Collagen and sometimes fat from other areas of ones body, is injected under an acne scar to aid in raising the crater-like scar. This treatment produces only temporary results and needs to be repeated regularly. Dermabrasion and Laser Resurfacing can also be very costly and are not always successful in treating scars.

The cost and effectiveness of the various acne scar treatmnts can vary widely, with some being quite expensive, so it is important to consider all the options before deciding on the best course of action. A higher priced treatment does not always produce the best results. Facts rather than emotion should govern any decision regarding treatment. Your doctor is the best person to assist you in choosing the treatment that best suits you and your needs.
