Check Your Keywords For Maximum Visitors

Jun 21, 2008
Are you updating your website content on a regular basis? If you are, you no doubt realize that this is one of the best ways that you can pull it people to your website and get some acknowledgment from the search engines. Not only do people love to read fresh content whenever it is posted on your blog, Google tends to pay more attention to you if you update your content on a regular basis. You will even find that after adding content regularly for some time, Google will list any new information that you post in their search engine rather quickly. If you aren't paying much attention to the keywords that you are using, however, you are leaving a lot of money and traffic on the table.

Using the proper keywords is more than simply pulling words out of the air that might be related to your subject. You need to really dig in and find the phrases that people are actually searching for which are possible for you to rank well in the search engines. This process is commonly known as keyword research and it should be part of your daily routine in order to make sure that your website rankings are improving on a regular basis. The way that it is commonly done is by researching on one of the keyword websites such as the Google external keyword tool or WordTracker.com. What these tools do is to compile information that people are searching for on the various search engines and to show you those keywords and phrases that they are actually typing in whenever they do a search. This can be a literal gold mine to you.

Don't make the newbie mistake of trying to go after the most popular keywords that are out there, there is simply too much competition. What you want to do is to go after what is commonly known as longtail keyword phrases. These are three or four word phrases, sometimes more, that people are typing in whenever they run a search query in Google or another search engine. The reason why these are great to use on your website is because they tend to have a lot less competition so you can rank well for them in a relatively short period of time.

Another reason why longtail keyword phrases are such a great idea is because they really narrow down the people that are searching for what you have to offer. For example, if you had a vacation website about cruises to the Caribbean, people typing in cruises would not nearly be as targeted as people who type in cheap Caribbean cruises. That is why you should make sure that all of the traffic you are targeting is very specific to what you have to offer.

Once you are ready to begin adding these keywords into your website, do so in a natural way. Include the phrase in your title and naturally throughout the article. If you chose properly, you will see a boost in traffic in just a few weeks after the pages are indexed.
