Natural Ways to Treat Acne

Jun 24, 2008
Acne isn't just an adolescent problem - it's also widespread among the older generation. Your skin becomes irritated when its pores are blocked and when the sebaceous glands manufacture excessive oil. Whiteheads, blackheads and pimples crop up when oil combines with dead skin cells that are continually being shed.

If your diet isn't balanced or your digestive tract isn't working properly, your skin can be adversely affected. One of the best natural ways to prevent skin diseases such as acne is to make sure that you exercise, drink plenty of water, eat lots of fruit and vegetables and avoid too much tea, coffee and alcohol.

From time to time, because of fluctuating hormones or any number of other situations, your skin will experience troubles despite your best efforts. But there's no need to rush out and buy costly skin care regimes in order to see fantastic improvements in clearing up your outbreaks.

Here are some home remedies you may want to try:

* Aloe Vera - The gel contained in the aloe vera plant aids in repairing irritations to the skin caused by acne breakouts. Use twice daily to decrease scarring. It's also a great skin cleanser.

* Apple Cider Vinegar - The acid in apple cider vinegar helps to clean facial pores. It can also kill bacteria and remove excess oil on the face.

* Brewer's Yeast - Contains chromium, a mineral that helps control how you process sugar. Two teaspoons of brewer's yeast sprinkled on your oatmeal or breakfast cereal helps to clear the skin and prevent buildup of bacteria that causes acne.

* Egg Whites - Apply egg whites to your skin just like a facial mask. Wait several minutes, and rinse off with water. Egg whites are an excellent, all natural astringent treatment.

* Green Tea - A natural antioxidant, green tea can be very beneficial to preventing acne. The antioxidants found in green tea fight the "free radicals" that damage skin cells and tissues and has no bad side effects.

* Oatmeal - Has long been used for skin irritations because it draws oil and impurities from the skin. Apply cooked and cooled oatmeal to the face as a mask for about fifteen minutes and then wash off with water.

Acne is a painful and sometimes embarrassing condition that can cause issues of low self-esteem and loss of self-confidence. You likely won't feel at all sociable when you have an obvious acne outbreak. Your tendency might be to stay in the house, soothing your down feelings with fattening food and self pity.

As an alternative, try indulging your body by testing a few of the tips above. There are many other natural products and treatments for acne which are safe for your skin. You don't necessarily need to purchase pricey products that might just make your problem worse instead of better.
