Understanding and Playing Triple Draw Poker!

Jun 25, 2008
Triple draw poker is a variation of poker which was considered to be an elitist game until recently, because it was played for high stakes. Most games were played for hundreds of dollars or even higher. Beginners did not stand a chance in this game because they would lose to the experts and they had a high price to pay.

The advent of online poker changed all that and provided a chance for even beginners to play at affordable stakes. Beginners can learn all the techniques of drawing with fun play and then graduate to real play. The stakes online can be as low as 1 cent to 2 cents and go up to $100 to $160.
In this version of poker, players have to make the lowest hand with their cards. It is played with a 52-pack card pack with no jokers and aces are always high. Each player is allowed to discard and draw cards three times for each round before showing their hand. This gives this game the name, "triple draw".

Each player is dealt a lot of cards in each round and this is the reason a maximum of six players can take part in the game. Each player is dealt five cards each (face down) when the round starts. Once the betting round has been completed, each player that is still in the game has the right to replace any number of cards they want. The discarded cards do not go back into the pack and are removed by the dealer without the other players seeing them.

After each player has drawn, the next round starts, beginning with the player to the left of the dealer. Similarly, two more rounds of draws and betting take place, making it a total of 3 draws and 4 betting rounds. If there are no more cards left, then the cards that have been discarded are reshuffled and returned to the table.

After the final draw and betting rounds, the showdown takes place and all players compare cards to see who has the lowest hand and that player is declared the winner.

This game depends a lot on reading the other players, because nobody gets to see the other players' cards. There is nothing else for a player to go by other than the expressions of the other players and the number of cards they draw.

The main money in any poker game comes from the mistakes made by the other players and an understanding of these mistakes is your advantage, more so in the lower limit games.
