Wedding Snaffoos and How to Avoid Them

Jun 25, 2008
Planning a wedding is a fun part of life, but it is also very difficult. There are so many things to go into planning a wedding that you sometimes may forget certain things. If something goes wrong or you forgot something, things can become hectic very quickly. For instance you could forget something very important or the timing of the wedding is off because you or someone important arrived late. This backs up the whole wedding which can lead to overtime charges for the bride and groom.

When planning your wedding, take precautions. This will help you make sure that you are not skipping over any steps. This can also reduce the amount of stress and anxiety you will face on your wedding day. These are five simple things you can do to lessen the chances of wedding planning mistakes.

1. Regulate the amount of people on your guest list. A big part of planning a wedding is the amount of people that you plan to have attend the wedding. If you continue to add more and more names each day, wedding costs are sure to increase. This could also mean that you do not have a location large enough to seat everyone comfortably.

Generally if you invite 100 people you will get 80 to 85 who will come, in addition to that, you need to consider that some of them will even bring a date or friend with them. So you should plan as if everyone on your guest list will arrive.

2. Know the basic rules and regulations of getting married. The laws dealing with marriage licenses vary in each state and sometimes in each county. It is important to have an understanding of the rules and laws that pertain to you. Take time to check up on all of these legalities way before your wedding.

If you planned your wedding to take place in a church, be aware of what dress and music are suitable. Some churches have strict requirements about the wedding ceremony. To get this information, contact your officiant.

3. Be sure that all vendors dealing with your wedding know the specific details. These people will need to know the time, date, and location, but besides these details, vendors will also need to know other things. Visit each vendor a week or so before your wedding to make sure that all of the little details are correct. It is a good idea to make a list of the vendors you plan to use with their contact information to have on during your wedding incase something goes wrong.

4. Begin beauty preparations a couple of weeks ahead of time. If you are planning on getting your hair cut, permed, or dyed make sure that you do so a couple of weeks before. The same goes for tanning salon visits. The last thing you want is to get a bad dye job and not have time to fix it before the wedding. The same goes for sunning beds, no one wants a sunburn on their wedding day.

5. The most critical part of wedding planning it being prepared. No one can see into the future, so it is always good to have extra supplies and backup plans if anything were to go wrong. Be aware of the weather if you are having an outdoors wedding, and be prepared for a weather change. Have a few of your guests be in charge of things such as first aid supplies and other things that may become useful.
