Alternatives For The 'Traditional' Bachelor Party

Aug 17, 2007
The bachelor party is a great tradition that goes back to the 1800s. We all know the stereotype of a bachelor party from movies like 'The bachelor party' with Tom Hanks. These parties can be described as all night partying with alcohol and female exotic dancers. The groom might be tempted do a little bit more with the female exotic dancers. Just before he makes a BIG mistake he comes to his senses and he saves himself for the bride. That's like in the movies but nowadays many men are choosing a less traditional route such as sporting events, daredevil activities, camping trips and even co-ed bachelor parties that include the soon to be bride and her friends. The choice for such a nontraditional party has several advantage such as not to get the groom in trouble with his bride not to mention that they won't leave the groom feeling too sick of alcohol to even remember his wedding day.

One alternative to the traditional bachelor party is camping, believe it or not it really is. You may go the adventurous way by backpacking to a location with only the gear on your back to help you survive the elements for a few days! Enough time for male bonding. A less adventurous way, but a luxurious one is to drive to a spa facility that offers well appointed cabins and five star gourmet meals. Between these two options there are a lot of options. Whichever option you choose, you are bound to have a great deal of time relaxing and enjoying the company of the rest of the participants in your bachelor party. A camping trip offers the groom a quiet atmosphere to reflect with his friends on the journey he is about to take.

Another great alternative to the usual bachelor party is a sporting event. Being married can change the time the man used to spend with his buddies. Going to a sport event can also be a great way to do some male bonding with your buddies in the last days of being an unmarried man. As obvious as it may sounds you need to pick a sport that all of your guests will be able to participate in especially if you plan to include very young or very old guests. When you in the situation where you not only invite your buddies but other guest as well playing a game of football may not be the best idea. You might consider taking everyone to play a round of golf or some else that every one can enjoy.

One type of activity that will be remembered for a long time will be a thrill seeker event like sky diving or white water rafting this will get the adrenaline pumping. Needless to say this kind of activity would not be for the faint hearted. The exhilaration gained from these activities coupled with the fear factor makes them a perfect activity for bonding with your friends. You might consider choosing your friends carefully because some of them can chicken out, in worst case some one can get injured and that can ruin the wedding day. If this is your bachelor party idea of choice you might want to consider holding your bachelor party well in advance of your wedding to avoid last minute injuries that delay the wedding or worse.

Co-ed bachelor parties that coincide with the bachelorette party are becoming increasingly popular as well. What usually happens is that the bachelors and bachelorettes meet at separate restaurants for dinner and then join each other at a nightclub to cap off the night with some dancing and a few drinks. On big advantages with these kind of parties is that they allow both the bride and the groom some time apart to spend time with their friends and then they reunite the couple at the end of the night in a chance for them to spend time with all of their friends without the pomp and circumstance that is likely to accompany their wedding reception.

The debauchery of stereotypical bachelor parties is not the only way to enjoy a fun-filled bachelor party that gives you the opportunity to bond with your friends. Other alternatives like camping trips, sporting activities, extreme adventures and even co-ed bachelor parties are redefining the traditional bachelor party. These alternative bachelor party ideas do not only keep the groom out of trouble but also offer the opportunity to enjoy a new kind of celebration.
