A Step By Step Guide To Bichon Frise Grooming

Jun 26, 2008
Of all the different breeds of dog that you can choose from, the Bichon Frise is definitely one of the very best. They are friendly and adorable dogs, and even great around children if they are trained properly. There are a few characteristics of the Bichon Frise that must be recognized before one goes ahead and decides to get them as a pet however.

One of the most important aspects that need to be taken into consideration by a potential owner is Bichon Frise grooming. This is because Bichon Frise grooming takes much longer and requires much more effort than grooming with all other breeds of dog. This means that if you are a busy person, one who is usually out working all day, you are going to be better off going with another breed, one that is not so high maintenance and which does not require so much attention.

When it comes to Bichon Frise grooming, there are a few tips in particular that any owner should keep in mind. One is that regular grooming is more than just helpful it is required with these dogs. Their coat is very soft and cottony and can easily get matted and tangled up if not properly taken care of. Like most other longhaired breeds, these dogs shed often and a lot and so regular brushing is required in order to keep as much hair off your clothes and furniture as possible.

The best idea is that you have hair shed and mats removed before bathing your dog and that you fluff dry them with a blow dryer. It is never a good idea to let a Bichon Frise air dry because this can leave knots in the fur that can be incredibly difficult to get out.

You also always have the option of bringing the dog in to a grooming professional and have them do the work for you, but remember that by grooming your dog you are getting to spend more time with them and bond with them.

There are always certain things that one should consider before going through and getting a pet. After all every pet, regardless of the specific type they may be, requires a certain type of care and maintenance. For example, proper Bichon Frise cuts can be difficult to do yourself or very expensive when hiring a professional to do the task for you. It is important that any potential owner be aware of these sorts of facts before choosing a pet, so that they can be sure that they will make an ideal owner.

Regular grooming is not an option with these dogs it is essential. Particularly because you want to keep up their puffy appearance, it is important that they are taken care of. You can always hire a grooming professional to do the work here, but of course there will be a fee required for these services, and this can certainly add up over time.

However if you have decided that you are going to be willing and able to put forth the time and effort required by these dogs, then you should feel free to go ahead and get one yourself.
