SPSS For Theses

Jun 26, 2008
In real time, once you put in all your data and analyze the whole thing, you will have big output file with many results. Now what? Find out how to organize your output, create good graphs and charts, and put them on your paper or else thesis.

Arranging Your Output

It is important to keep in mind that all of the SPSS output are not going to be saved all along with the set data, which is used to make them. They require to be saved alone. The saved outputs are opened presently by clicking "Open Menu Option" under "File" menu and after that by selecting "Output." Keep in mind that you can include only one data set plus one output viewer open at one time.

Displaying and Hiding Results

You can selectively show as well as hide individual tables or else results from a complete analysis by clicking on arrows. For every analysis, there is one blue arrow, which can be used to show or hide the exact sections. If an arrow is pointing downward, the table or chart is open; if it points right, it is closed.

You may want to offer your analyses more helpful names than the "Descriptive Statistics" and "T-Test." In the left frame double-click on the name of an analysis to change it.

Placing Figures In Your Paper or Thesis

In SPSS, putting graphs and analysis tables in the Word documents is very easy. In addition, you can save the output as web page document as a result it can also be viewed by your colleagues, lecturers, or project teammates.

Copying Graphs and Charts in Word

1) Open an Output file from where you plan to take the charts option, or the graphs, or tables.
2) Select the item or items that you want to copy in an outline frame or in viewing frame.
3) Then click on "Copy Option" from an "Edit Option" menu in SPSS.
4) Open the Word document.
5) Put the cursor where you like to put your graphic.
6) Choose "Paste" from "Edit" menu in Word.
7) As you will see that the chart or the graphic, which you have copied from the SPSS will come out in your Word document.

Ms-Word document with the SPSS import

Matters of sizing and post can be addressed by just clicking on the graphic when it has been imported in Word Document.

Exporting Your Output as Web Page

1) First open your output file.
2) Choose "Export" from "File" menu.
3) You have to define what you would like to export. You can then select to export with or without the graphics and charts, you can select to export your complete output or just chosen items and you can select what kind of file you want to create. For the web page, it is good to export in an HTML file.

Export Output Window

If you select "Output Document Option", or else "The Charts Only" under "Export Option:" then you also have an alternative of adjusting the file of the graphics you are going to export just by a click on the "Options" button.
