Visualization Techniques That Prove The Power of Guided Imagery

Jun 26, 2008
Ever tried to visualize something... or attempted the process of guided imagery, only to find it too difficult or impossible?

The simple fact is that visualization or guided imagery is neither difficult or impossible and the visualization techniques I'm about to share will prove this to you.

If you tried visualization in the past and it didn't work for you, chances are resistance was to blame. For visualization to work effectively, you must allow yourself to relax by allowing all tension to leave your body and the multitude of often conflicting thoughts to flow from your mind. Letting go is the crucial first step. If you can relax and open your mind to new possibilities, guided imagery or visualization can work wonders for you.

There are those people however, who claim that visualization doesn't work for them. My counterclaim is that the belief that it won't work is the only thing getting in the way.

If you can suspend your disbelief long enough to give creative visualization an honest try, you will soon come to recognize its inherent value as a tool of growth and attainment.

Now follow along as I share basic visualization techniques with you. Read through this simple process and then try it for yourself.

1. Find a comfortable place, take a seat and begin to breathe deeply, in a comfortable and relaxed way.

2. Breathe in fresh clean air and allow the oxygen to energize every cell in your body. Breathe out every thought that's on your mind. Just reach for a peaceful, tranquil place.

3. Now... as you're feeling relaxed, free and comfortable, I want you to imagine taking out a fresh ruby red grapefruit from your refrigerator.

4. In your mind's eye, pay attention to its color and size. Get a sense for how the outer skin feels in your hands as you place this plump and juicy grapefruit on the kitchen counter. Now slice it in half and note the juice that surrounds each half.

5. Imagine cutting away one small section, piercing it with a fork. If you prefer your grapefruit with sugar, go ahead and spread a little sweetness. Go ahead now and place that juicy goodness in your mouth. Delicious... isn't it?

Were you able to see it and feel the grapefruit as you popped it into your mouth? If you're like most people, you could literally taste it as your body made the natural adjustments to consume the naturally sour fruit.

Next, imagine an onion. Mentally place it on your cutting board and then slice it into rings. Rehearse the scene in your mind in detail and note how your body responds.

If you were able to imagine the grapefruit or onion as real in any way, shape or form -- you were in fact visualizing. Visualization is actually imagination at work. It's using the power of your mind to conjure up sensory-rich images, as though they were real.

If you could see, smell, feel, taste, or hear any part of this food experience, you were using your imaginative faculty. Visualization or guided imagery is the exact same process. But it's directed at something you want to experience in life.

Use these visualization techniques as a reminder of the power you hold within that can be accessed at any time, towards any end.
