Losing Pregnancy Weight - The Smart Way

We all know that you can't judge a book by its cover. But that's the way the ball still bounces in our society. Just ask any Mom who is trying to lose weight after giving birth. There is the "Celebrity Mom" body image that is feed to the masses by the media and we all feed off of it. We are to blame for feeling the need to be skinny right after pregnancy. But we also know that this "image" is not healthy. Weight management is not about shedding the pounds to look like a Celebrity Mom. It is about taking care of your mind, body and soul.

Losing the baby fat is a good thing, but can you keep it off for good? Did losing the weight alleviate any of your financial or emotional stresses? Have you relinquished your bad eating habits? Are your days less chaotic now that your skinny? These are some of the "baggage" that are ignored when Moms opt for the quick-fix diets and over the counter diet pills that promise you short-lived results at a cost to your health and well-being. This is why you need to find a holistic way to stay healthy and keep the weight off for good.

1. Go for a lifestyle program.

A good lifestyle program will take into account the physical, behavioral and psychological components of weight management. Therefore, it will be better able to equip you with the necessary tools to achieve permanent weight loss and a healthier lifestyle. It is continuous because it will address your ever-changing needs as you make the gradual transition towards health and fitness. There are Mom-based lifestyle programs available that are both convenient and practical for you to trim your tummy and get healthy.

2. Do exercises that maximize fat burning.

Our muscles are the fat-burning factories of our body. And if you don't use your muscles, you will lose them. Therefore, if your goal is to lose the pregnancy weight fast, you need to do the exercises that can re-build your lost muscles. Muscles will burn the baby fat in the most efficient way possible.

The exercises that perform such a function are resistance-training exercises. These exercises are a form of strength training that increases your muscle density and hence strength. As a result you will trim your tummy and lose the jelly belly. The great thing about this type of training is that there are many varieties of exercises to choose from and a workout session can be done in 15 minutes in the comfort of your home.

3. Choose foods that will boost your metabolism.

One of first target areas where a Mom wants to lose weight is her tummy. You can lose your tummy with the right exercise but you have to make sure that you are fuelling your body with the right foods to keep your body healthy and your metabolism humming. Fat burning foods are foods that require more energy to digest and therefore they help to boost your metabolism and burn fat faster.

Fat burning foods are foods that are high in fiber and lean protein. Keep in mind that you should be aware of how these foods are processed with regards to fat, sugar and salt content. Less is good in as a general rule. You are what you eat, so be a smart consumer and strive to eat more natural foods.

4. Include the Family.

Why reap the benefits of losing the pregnancy weight on your own? You can share the benefits of eating right and regular exercise with your family. You are the heart of the family and as such you can be the family instigator to get them on the health wagon. Plan more family activities that include more physical activity. Gradually introduce new healthy recipes and encourage healthy snacks and choices for your family. With the family on board making the transition to a healthy lifestyle will flow more smoothly and seem more natural.

Image is irrelevant when it comes to a better quality of life. Image is irrelevant when it comes to defining who you are as a Mother and unique individual. Image is irrelevant when it comes to needing to feel and look great. What is important is connecting with whom you are and spending time with your loved ones. And living a healthy lifestyle is time well spent.
