Ovulation calendar? Tips for getting pregnant

Jul 1, 2008
An ovulation calendar is a tool that helps you to work out which days you are most fertile, in order to get pregnant in the fastest time possible. The calculation is based on the premise you ovulate around 14 days before the start of your period, so getting the approximate dates that you're most likely to conceive, will help you time your intercourse for faster conception.

You can either use a free ovulation calendar on the net, or spend a few dollars on a desktop calculator. Some providers will charge you a monthly fee for the use of their calendar, but the end result is the same: they help you to work out the best time to try to conceive.

So, can they help you get pregnant? The answer is - maybe. In an ideal world, it would get you pregnant 100% of the time. But we're not living in an ideal world, are we?

So, what can you do to increase your chances of success? The first thing to do is to monitor the position and consistency of your cervix. Your cervix changes in position and softness during your cycle. When you're ovulating, your cervix will be higher, and more difficult to reach, and a lot softer than normal.

Another way to increase your chances is by looking at the cervical mucus. During ovulation it transforms from a stiff pale creamy fluid to one that can stretch and is almost transparent. You'll be amazed at the differences, and excited that something so basic can help you!

One more step you can take in identifying when you're most likely to get pregnant is taking your BBT daily. If you can use a good quality thermometer that can show you your temperature in 2 decimal places, you'll get an accurate idea of when typically ovulate during your cycle.

Put all of these into a chart, so you have a good idea of what happens every day of your cycle. Charting your cycle on a daily basis, over a period of months, can help you become very familiar with how it works, and puts you more in touch with your body, and can even help you know when you're ovulating.

The downside to all this daily effort is that it's most helpful for women whose cycles run like clockwork. If your periods are not regular then you need to do more to help yourself.

The important thing to do if your cycle is not regular is to get your body back into balance, by taking a herbal supplement such as FertilPlus, which can regulate your menstrual cycle and stimulate ovulation. If you have access to a herbalist specializing in reproductive herbology, he or she can help you select which herbs will work best for putting your cycle into balance. One your menstrual cycle has become regular, these tools will work for you, and getting pregnant will be easier with the use of an ovulation calendar.
