3 Helpful Tips to Help You Get Your Ex Back

Jul 1, 2008
In the time right after a breakup, it can be difficult to figure out exactly where to go from your present situation. You know you want to get your ex back, but how? Here are some tips to help with with this.

1) It may sound hard to believe, but it's actually true that separating from your ex and cutting off all contact for about a month can actually help you get back together with him when that month is over! This operates as damage control by limiting the harsh things that may be said when tempers are still high, and allows you both some time to get your heads together.

By giving yourself this month of space and time to yourself, you create the opportunity to formulate a real plan and avoid being stuck into situations you don't know how to deal with. Winging it will only result in unfortunate consequences that weren't a part of the plan.

2) Other people aren't going to solve your problems for you! If you want your ex back, it begins and ends with you. Don't deal with your breakup like you see in the movies, where the heartbroken lounge in their apartments sobbing to daytime TV until their friends bail them out by setting up a blind date or something. You have to be proactive and get things done yourself...you're the only person you can depend on.

Even though it seems unfair, like this is too big for anyone to do alone, know that you have to depend only on yourself. You can get help, and I advise you to, but your plan for getting your ex back can only have you as the one factor it depends upon to work. Don't count on your ex, don't count on your friends. Count on yourself.

3) Make sure you're in the company of people who care about you. Family, friends...whoever there is who values your feelings and wants you to be happy, spend a lot of time with them. The support can help you heal your pain and find the motivation to work things out. But avoid just using them as a shoulder to cry on...it's not right to lay your burden completely at the feet of other people. Value your friends, and do your best to enjoy their company.

Don't underestimate the healing power of being with people who care for you. Just having somebody makes everything seem a little less impossible, and their support is something they'll gladly give you. Just make sure you don't take advantage of their kindness.

These are only a few tips for you, but if you heed them you'll find things to be a lot easier than if you hadn't. Most importantly, do not go into this without a plan...that's a big part of what the one-month separation is for: to develop that plan. Doing this without a real strategy can be a disaster, so make sure you have a helping hand guiding you through it.
