Pug Care: The Basics

Jul 2, 2008
Pugs definitely do make great pets because they are affectionate and easy to take with you everywhere. They also have many other favorable characteristics however, including that they are small dogs but not yippy as most other similar sized dogs are. They are extremely smart and easy to train, and also very sociable and outgoing.

There are certain aspects to the Pug that should be considered before one decides to choose this breed to have as a pet however, and more than anything this refers to Pug breeding. With any dog it is important to take time and choose the right breeder, but more than anything this is true with the Pug. Because the Pug is a very popular breed many breeders are mass breeding them and not taking proper care of the puppies. You really want to stay away from these mass breeders especially because any behavior problems that the dogs may have developed will be difficult and even impossible to fix.

Learning about Pug breeding is really going to be to your benefit. You will ensure that you are getting the healthiest and happiest dogs possible, and there are a few steps that you will want to take to find the right breeder.

One of the most important aspects to include in Pug breeding is choosing the right Pug breeders. There are literally hundreds of different breeds out there but many of them are considered as being mass breeders. Mass breeders are those that are more in it for the profit and really do not care about the dogs. As a result, the dogs are poorly behaved and may even be violent.

These behavior problems will be difficult and possibly even impossible to fix, and so it is well worth it for you to take some time and find the right Pug breeder to buy a dog from. There are a few steps that you can take in order to ensure that you find the right breeder, and first and foremost you want to ask questions. Any good breeder is going to be more than willing to show you the right paperwork and answer any inquires that you may have.

With the Internet you can browse through literally hundreds of different options in just a matter of minutes, something that you obviously could not do otherwise. The newspaper is not the best idea here, because the best dog breeders avoid advertising themselves in this format.

With a little time and patience and making yourself more informed on the issue of Pug breeding, you will be able to find the right breeder and make sure that you get the healthiest happiest dogs possible. Remember that a breeder that asks you a lot of questions is not being annoying, but rather should be respected because they obviously care about their dogs and about what sort of home they are going to be headed to.

They may even ask just as many questions as you, and rather than considering this as a hindrance you should respect this, knowing that these are good breeders. You can speak to your veterinarian for more information on this and in particular to find reputable breeders by asking for referrals.
