Teak and the Others - Designed For Beauty and Comfort

Jul 2, 2008
There are different kinds of materials that can be used to make deck furniture. Some popular deck fittings are outdoor teak furniture and deck furniture made of cast iron, aluminum, wicker, PVC or vinyl. Let's have a look at each one of them.

Teak

Teak originates from the wet forest of the South East Asia. This tropical hardwood tree is very resistant to warping, swelling, rotting and shrinking which makes it very durable. Because of its rareness and quality, the teak wood is often sold at a very expensive price. Furniture either outdoor or indoor made of teak is stylish and often associated with luxury. Its rubber content also makes it possible for teak to be styled in many ways and is able to withstand the harsh condition. Though teak is expensive, you will be fully satisfied as your teak patio set as it will last for many years.

Have teak garden planters, teak benches or teak lounge chairs for your outdoor teak furniture. There are also elegant teak patio sets that you can get to give life to your patio. It would be very relaxing to while away time sitting on a teak rocking chair or have dinner by the patio using the teak dining table and chairs.

Cast Iron

Another material commonly made into outdoor furniture is cast iron. Iron is certainly heavy material therefore; furniture made from it will definitely be heavy. You then shouldn't worry about your furniture being blown away by heavy rain, should it pass by your area. A disadvantage of cast iron is that the material is prone to rust. Proper protection should be applied onto the furniture such as anti-rust solution so that the furniture is soundly protected from the beginning.

Many beautiful designs can be made from the metal canvass of a cast iron. This can give cast iron a classic feel in it. Cast iron would be one of the most expensive materials you can use for deck furniture. However, the design and the sentimental value that it could give your deck furniture are very much worth it.

Aluminum

Aluminum is yet another popular material you find in the market for outdoor furniture. Aluminum is very light material and having it in your garden means you can change the layout as often as you like for you would not dread moving the furniture about. But bad news for home owners who opt for aluminum is that they will have a hard time keeping the furniture in its place should the strong wind suddenly blows. Don't be surprised to find your garden chairs over at the next door neighbor's lawn after a night of harsh wind.

However, aluminum does have other advantages such as it is durable even though it is lightweight. Aluminum also does not have the tendency to rust either. Therefore, extra effort is not required to protect the furniture.

Aluminum can have color designs to match any type of theme one wants for their deck. However, it can give your deck a look that is kind of cheap. This makes aluminum not suitable for grand homes like mansions. With proper cushioning however, a very nice design can be pulled off.

Wicker

A classic and a very popular choice would be the wicker material. Before, style and color are limited but now, a variety of options from vibrant colors to classic white are available. Just choose the ones that best fit your personality or choose according to the theme that you want. Wicker can be strong enough to withstand strong winds. It can also withstand the hotness of summer seasons. However, proper maintenance should be applied in order for the deck furniture to not wear quickly. Because of its classic design, it goes well on any kind of patio or home deck.

Wicker is actually from a family of light wood therefore it has the tendency to absorb water. This is why it should be protected before use and you can do that by layering the surface of the furniture with latex paints, other non-porous substance to make it waterproof.

PVC

Due to the fact that PVCs are inexpensive, most people regard this material as cheap. On the contrary, PVCs can be a very beautiful material for your patio. To unleash the beauty of this material, one should carefully handle it and craft it properly. PVCs would also be susceptible to the harmful UV rays of the sun. Proper precautions to avoid being damaged by these UV rays should be done.

Vinyl

Vinyl is another expensive option for the deck. Don't be turned off by the price for it has many qualities that make it sought after even if it requires a big investment. Vinyl is strong and durable. This makes it lasts a very long time. This material is hardly affected by the outdoor environment and keeping it clean is a breeze which is usually the biggest challenge for outdoor furniture. Not only that, vinyl requires no maintenance whatsoever.

Whether your choice is cast iron, vinyl, PVC, aluminum, wicker or teak outdoor furniture, it is definitely designed for beauty and comfort.
