Ah Natural - Only Go the Natural Way to Get Rid Of Acne

Jul 3, 2008
What's the best way to rid yourself of acne? Your dermatologist probably would prescribe some sort of medicated cream and perhaps antibiotics as well. Your pharmacist would recommend a benzoyl peroxide based treatment. While both of these options are OK to use for a short time, acne lasts for months, even years and the treatments suggested by your pharmacist and dermatologist are both likely to cause you trouble over the long term.

Recent studies find a link to skin cancer with long-term use of benzoyl peroxide. While a teenager doesn't always see the far reaching effects in the future and only notices the problem today, the benzoyl peroxide products may not be the best way to get rid of acne.

No one would argue that taking antibiotics over a long period of time is a good thing. This leads to the development of resistant strains of bacteria; then you may be unable to find anything to help you when you really need antibiotics. And of course, the word antibiotic is Latin for "against life" - a little scary when you think about it, huh? You are best served by avoiding antibiotics except when you truly need them. So how do you get rid of acne? Why not instead try the natural way to get rid of acne?

You need to go after the pimples first. Wash your face, but never scrub it. Scrubbing irritates your skin, leading to more breakouts and worsening the ones you already have. Use a mild soap and wash gently. Pat dry and follow this by applying fresh lemon juice with a cotton ball. Let the juice dry and then rinse with cool water. Do this morning and night - and at night, also put on a little calamine lotion before going to bed.

Diet is the next step - avoid fried foods and anything with processed sugars, white flour and milk. Some are shocked at the idea of cutting milk from the diet. However, teenage breakouts seem to coincide as the amount of milk they drink increases. While milk provided nutrition, it also sometimes contains hormones and can elevate blood sugar. The hormones are the biggest problem - they are often present in the feed of commercial dairy cows; and hormonal imbalance causes acne, so cut out milk for now.

Keep away from potatoes and any other tubers. These contain too much sugar and this causes swings in blood sugar levels, stimulating sebum production and thus acne. Bananas should also be avoided, as should seafood. Beef and chicken are OK, as long as you know where they came from - organic meats are best.

This is a simple diet, but will go along way towards keeping you free of breakouts. Eat lots of vegetables, other than the ones mentioned above, especially if raw. Fresh fruit is great, except for bananas and for snacks, choose unroasted, unsalted nuts. Beef and chicken are fine for dinner, as long as they are not from hormone-laden factory farms. Ditch the caffeinated beverages and drink water and get plenty of exercise instead. If you follow these natural ways to get rid of acne, you'll have clearer skin before you know it.
