Tips On The Use Of Dog Obedience Hand Signals

Jul 6, 2008
Many homes across American and around the world have dogs. It is a fact that more and more people love their dogs so much that they even consider them members of the family. No one to blame here, dogs are amazing creatures. But, what is about dogs that have every one going crazy for them? That is because; dogs can be easily trained, especially when using dog obedience hand signals.

Whenever proper dog training is accomplished, afterwards the dog will understand both, verbal and dog obedience hand signals. But in the majority of cases, these pets react better to dog hand signals than to verbal commands because of their nature to be really attentive of body language.

Dog training hand signals are pleasurable to teach and easy to understand by most dogs. The very first thing to do is to associate your hand signals in gradual repetition then slowly disregard the verbal command. When you are training your pet, it is advisable that the primary command that you should teach is the sit technique.

So, what is the right method to demonstrate your pup the sit command with dog hand signals? Among the 1st thing you need to do when instructing him to do so, is to ensure that your flurry friend is giving full attention to you. Whenever your pet isn't paying attention to you, you want to address him by his name. Besides, when training the sitting command to your dog, you had better be on a controlled surrounding, perhaps in a room with just you and your pup. After you've got your puppy's attention a 100%, then point at your pet with your index finger and verbalize the command "sit". If the pup does not comprehend the command, demonstrate him how to sit, by positioning him on the sit position.

The next basic command you need to train your dog is the down command. Please keep in mind that it is a little bit more difficult command for the dog to do, especially because when they are lying down on the floor dogs feel that they are lowering their guard, and some pets will just not want to do that, especially if they are super vigilant. There are several ways to teaching your dog the "down" command, but one of the most effective ones is to place a treat in front of his nose and bring the treat down to the floor as you say the word "down". Your dog will want to follow the treat and naturally end up on his belly.

After then, you are ready to teach the 'come' signal. When doing this, you need to call his name first as you say 'come'. If he approaches you right ahead, give some reward but he is disobedient, you can pull his leash unto you while at the same time calling his name and saying 'come'.

After your dog masters the spoken command for come, you can then start to train him in the come command by using dog hand signals. To do this bend your arm at the elbow, move backwards and bring your arm toward you in a sweeping motion, and say the command "come". If your dog won't come you might want to keep a treat in your hand, give the verbal and hand signal for the command and once your dog comes to you, give him tons of praises and the treat.
