Learn How to Dance the Waltz Professionally

Jul 10, 2008
Many people choose to learn how to dance the waltz when they are planning to get married. The reason they choose to do so is that the waltz is a simple, elegant dance, which is fairly quick and easy to learn. Whether you are planning to get married, or just want to learn ballroom dancing for other reasons, learning how to dance the waltz is an excellent idea. First, you should learn a bit about the waltz, though.

There are two basic types of waltz, first of all. The English, or modern, waltz and the Viennese waltz. Before you can learn to dance the waltz, you first need to decide whether you want to learn both types or just one and, if just one, which one. The biggest difference between the two is that the English version is a slow dance, while the Viennese version is quite fast. The nice thing about either version is that it can be modified to fit many types of music playing in the background. It's a very adaptable dance, which is why many people learn how to dance the waltz, so they can use it in a variety of places and ways.

Learning how to dance the waltz is fairly easy to do. The steps, while simple, can be changed, adapted and embellished upon. If you want to learn how to dance the waltz, you could start by hiring a qualified dancing instructor. A good instructor can teach you all the finer points of the dance. Just be sure that they are experienced in teaching the waltz. Check their credentials and references, before you hire them.

As a beginner, other ways you can learn how to dance the waltz include instructional videos, which you can get online or in stores, and by going to parties where people are doing the waltz and observing them. Instructional videos are helpful because they let you learn how to dance the waltz at your own pace. Parties, on the other hand, are good because you can see the waltz performed right in front of you and possibly even find someone willing to help you.

You might also try learning to dance the waltz in a dance studio. Studios are full of professionals who are there to help you. If you go to the studio regularly, you can not only learn the steps, but really become comfortable with them. Knowing how to waltz is only half the battle. If you aren't comfortable, your movements will be jerky and embarrassing. If you learn how to dance the waltz in the studio environment, you'll be surprised how easy it will become to dance the waltz anywhere and at any time that you want.
