The Ants' Four-Part Philosophy

Jul 11, 2008
Jim Rohn determined that ants live by a four-part philosophy. This philosophy can be a powerful tool in your life.

1. Ants never quit.

An ant doesn't worry about whether or not a task can be done or not. He just does it. He doesn't wonder if it's too tough. He just does it, until it's complete.

Ants follow what's called the "ant trail." They don't get lost as long as they follow the line. But sometimes, something obstructs their progress. The ant doesn't dismay at the lost trail. Instead, the ants look around until they find the trail again. Powerful stuff.

Don't give up. The scent's around here somewhere. You were on the right path. If you weren't, you can find it. Look around. And remember, never, ever give up.

2. Ants are thinking about winter all summer long.

You know...There's a pervasive philosophy in society that goes something like this, "Eat, drink, and be merry for tomorrow we die." Perhaps you've heard this philosophy before. You might even subscribe to this philosophy. You might want to look at the ants' philosophy.

Ants are always thinking, "We have to gather today, because we don't know what tomorrow will bring." Do they know something that we don't know? No. They just take action. Winter is coming so we need to gather. Are you gathering during the summer?

3. During the winter, ants think summer.

Ants are thinking, "This too shall pass." They know that eventually the summer will come again. Winter never lasts forever.

Of course, some winters are longer than others. But summer always comes. They sun will warm once again. Look forward to the day.

4. Ants think, "Gather all we can now." Jim Rohn calls this the all-they-possibly-can philosophy.

Summer always follows spring and winter, right? Always. We're not surprised when the leaves change colors at the end of summer. This is the natural order of things.

But sometimes we're surprised by an early snowstorm. Or a colder than normal winter. Don't be surprised, be prepared.

So remember the ant philosophy...

1. Don't ever, ever quit.

2. Think winter all summer.

3. Think summer all winter.

4. Live by the all-you-possibly-can philosophy.
