Life In The Fast Lane

Jul 11, 2008
Car insurance companies cross the globe will be biting their nails at the forthcoming vehicles about to hit the streets. One such vehicle is the new Lamboghini Gallardo LP560-4, recently unveiled in Las Vegas. The LP stands for longtitudinale posteriore which refers to the arrangement and position of the engine. The 560 is in reference to its power output and the 4 expresses it's permanent four wheel drive.

The Lamborghini rivals are the Ferrari F430 Scuderia, Porsche and coming up later in the year, the Audi R8 V10. All amazing cars in their own right and all pushing Lamborghini to do better. And that is exactly what they have achieved.

This monster will do 202mph without a struggle and comes with all the power and agility that you would expect from this manufacturer with a few subtle differences. A beefed up engine adds another 39bhp to the 513bhp drivers are used to with this car and will hit 60mph in under 4 seconds. The average car will take 12 seconds to reach this speed. Personally, I wouldn't want to fork out the car insurance premiums for this baby - the road tax of 400 pounds a year would be enough to force a sharp intake of breath from the average person. But, having said that, the average person wouldn't be shelling out just under 150,000 pounds for a car, they'd be spending it on a house or some other such trivial matter.

The oppositions Ferrari Scuderia tops the Lamborghini price tag with little change from 173,000 pounds and is a more common sight but is said to have better handling and offers superb performance. But for the die hard Porsche fans who want the ultimate status symbol, you could always go for a Porsche 911 GT2 - a mere snip at just over 130,000 pounds - but who's counting?

The Ferrari California is the ultimate orgasmic experience in the motor world and will be available in the Spring of 2009. With it's V8 engine mounted in front of the driver, it is the first of its kind to use direct fuel injection and the first production model to have a retractable hard top roof. The 460 bhp makes it slightly less powerful than your average Ferrari but it has a look I would kill for. Reaching 60mph In less than 4 seconds it displays perfect handling and performance as well as a comfortable ride. Man, I have to find me a rich husband before next Spring, even if it is just to pay the car insurance!

For those with not quite the healthy bank balance required for the above you could do worse than have a Lexus IS 250 SR parked in your drive. Available now for a tiny 24,990, pounds this new offering from Lexus comes with a full body kit including a front spoiler, a rear wing and 17 inch alloys. It also boasts aluminium kick plates and pedals inside as well as heated front seats and all these extras, according to Lexus, amount to more than 3,500 pounds even though the car is only 900 pounds dearer than one without the additives. It will also have the added advantage of not costing the earth on car insurance premiums.

Of course, any of the above need the tightest security against those pesky car thieves and good security can lower car insurance outlay if it means you pose less risk. To that end, why not invest in a Neo-Trac?

This is a handy little device that can be installed in your vehicle and will automatically alert a control centre if your personal ID tag is not on board. They in turn, will immediately contact you to see if your car is being stolen and will trace the car within seconds, sending police to the scene. They also possess the ability to remotely disable the vehicle once it is safe to do so, avoiding high speed chases.

It will also notify emergency services of your whereabouts in the event of an accident by detecting abrupt changes in speed or direction. So, if daddy has bought you one of the above cars and you want to get involved with burn ups with your mates, the Neo Trac is probably not for you. For the rest of us without money to burn, this gadget will be worth every penny of its 615 pounds price tag.
