Natural Remedies for High Blood Pressure: Do They Really Work?

Jul 11, 2008
Many natural remedies exist today to help you reduce or blood pressure, despite seeing a plethora of medications on the market. Perhaps the first thing you need to find out is what causes your blood pressure to go up in the first place. If it's something relatively simple to fix, such as improving your diet or getting more exercise, it may be easy to maintain at healthy levels.

Number one on the list to keep blood pressure levels at optimum is to get plenty of exercise. Exercise is important because it helps the blood circulate within your body. When you exercise, your heart pumps harder, which pushes more blood through your veins. In turn, this improves circulation and reduces blood pressure levels after exercise is complete. If you have high blood pressure, a daily exercise routine is likely to help. Of course, you should check with your doctor first to make sure you don't have any underlying health problems that would prevent this. In addition, you shouldn't make your exercise regimen too strenuous if you haven't been active for a while. You can hurt yourself.

Of course, diet is also key. Eating right naturally helps lower blood pressure levels by reducing salt and increasing potassium levels. Stay away from or at least greatly minimize high sodium foods, high fat foods, and alcohol. If you consume these things in great quantities, you could be contributing to your high blood pressure, if not causing it outright.

There are some supplements that can also help you lower your blood pressure. These include fish oil, hawthorn, garlic, and coenzyme Q 10. Coenzyme Q 10 has been shown to be effective in reducing systolic blood pressure levels. In addition, if you have type 2 diabetes along with high blood pressure, you may also benefit from taking coenzyme Q 10.

Garlic, too, is a good way to improve your systolic blood pressure levels. However, you must stop taking garlic before surgery for a specified period of time, and after surgery as well. Because it can also interact with certain medications, you should check with your doctor before you included in your diet or take it as a supplement. You may need to avoid garlic altogether if you are taking things like Trental or Coumadin.

if you are looking for an herbal supplement to help maintain healthy levels for your blood pressure then you should consider taking hawthorn. Diastolic blood pressure levels can be greatly reduced when taking hawthorn. There are no herbal drug interactions with hawthorn.

Another beneficial supplement is fish oil. DHA is an important supplement for brain health, and fish oil is a major source. You can also eat a lot of fish, but the capsules are good substitute if you don't like fish. Again, fish oil is contraindicated in certain cases, so check with your doctor before you take it.

There are many natural ways you can reduce your blood pressure. These ways include maintaining a healthy diet on a daily basis. You should have a normal exercise routine. Exercise helps improve circulation and lower your circulation. You can also take natural supplements that are designed to help lower your blood pressure levels. You don't have to take medications for lowering cholesterol. You can lower your cholesterol yourself by paying attention to how healthy you are. Maintaining a healthy level of cholesterol can be accomplished with some effort, but you can do it.
