Simple Tips for Planning Your Honeymoon

Jul 13, 2008
Choosing where to have the honeymoon is one of the most important decisions that a couple to be wed must make. Agreeing on an enjoyable location that fits the budget, is available for arrangement, and is easy to get to after the reception is often a daunting and tedious task. However, there are certain things that will help engaged couples pick the perfect destination. Once you have a clear idea of what both the bride and groom want for the location, the planning should be relatively easy!

The number one consideration should be the overall cost of the trip including travel arrangements, food, activities, souvenirs and etc. Although this is a trip that many couples want to be memorable, it also needs to meet the couple's budget. Therefore, a compromise between an extravagant affair and budget need to be realized. It is good to have what some call a "sink fund" in case the trip ends up costing more than expected or an emergency arises while away. A general rule of thumb to consider when planning is the honeymoon should not exceed the expenses of the overall wedding costs.

The intimacy of the location is something else that needs to be considered for the post-marriage trip. Many couples will want to choose a fun trip but one that doesn't offer the type of climate that can provide a couple plenty of together time without the prying eyes of others. Many couples, on the other hand, want a lively, active trip with lots of activity and togetherness in another sense. It's up to the couple and their tastes in activity to make this choice.

Also, some family members, in particular parents, find it a good gift idea to provide a trip as a wedding gift. Don't let these types of gifts hinder your plans and arrangements. The gift giver will understand that arrangements have already been made. Also, no one knows what you want for your first trip together better than you yourself. Always remember there are options such as rescheduling or obtaining a refund for the gifted trip.

The destination is the key decision to be made by any couple looking to make a honeymoon decision. Many couples get caught in the debate between visiting an exotic locale that they may never have a chance to visit again and a place that they can visit more often. The destination should be somewhere memorable, no matter whether it's around the corner or around the world.

Ultimately, planning the perfect honeymoon involves the ability to compromise between the wildest dreams of travel and the practicality of a destination to create a memorable post-marriage trip that can provide lasting memories for your years to come, and start your time as a couple off with some magic and wonder.
