The Overwhelming Importance of Real Estate Signs

Jul 15, 2008
It wasn't long ago that selling a home was as easy as breathing. Well, homeowners are coughing pretty hard these days. To beat the current real estate market flu, you need to focus on the small things when selling your home.

There are a lot of factors that go into selling a home. From landscaping to repairs, there are plenty of guides on the things you need to do to get your home in shape before listing it on the market. In this article, we are going to take a look at a specific part of your marketing.

This is the digital age. This means you should be posting your home on real estate sites like FSBOAmerica.org. That doesn't mean you should ignore the basics, however. They still can make or break the sale of your home.

When it comes to selling a home, it doesn't get much simpler than real estate signage. You know, the signs you see on telephone polls, yards and the like. Many people mistakenly discount their effectiveness at bringing in buyers.

Why are home for sale signs important? Buyers shop by geographic areas. They look for "good" neighborhoods that have the aspects they are looking for. While they will look online and in the MLS for homes, they will do one other thing you can take advantage of.

So, why do these signs work? Well, you need to think how buyers shop. They look for areas they like and then they cruise around them. Guess what they do when they see a for sale sign? Yep, they check it out.

Your for sale sign is a window to your home for buyers. This means you need to include some basic information on it. Since space is at a premium, make sure to list the number of bedrooms and bathrooms, the price and your phone number.

The purpose of the for sale sign around the neighborhood is only to generate a bit of interest by buyers. The for sale sign you post at your home has an entirely different purpose. It should provide much more information and be non-threatening.

When selling your home, you should have a stand alone sign on the front lawn. That sign should have the basic information, but also a plexiglass box. The box should contain brochures with a full profile of your home and pictures.

Overall, the signs around the neighborhood should entice buyers to come to drive by the home. The signage on the lawn should entice them to grab a brochure. The brochure should entice them to give you a call. Then it is up to you to get an offer.
