Rare Antiques Available For Customer Viewing

Jul 15, 2008
One of the biggest and largest collections of antiques are owned by one of the most popular restaurants in America and are displayed for easy viewing of their customers. Each location offers a different variety of antiques with antique pictures being the mainstream of their entire collection.

Many collectors enjoy catching a glimpse of these antiques and so many collectors and owners of these and other old country stores will use shadow boxes to display their collection. When using a shadow box be sure to display your collection with other items or products for the best possible view. For instance, if your shadow box focuses on a pair of shoes made in the 1920s, then you should consider including products that were used to clean shoes or help maintain their appearance from that era. Shadow boxes do not have to expensive nor fancy, in fact they can simply be old wooden boxes or crates.

When displaying antique photographs it impresses the viewer more if there is a brief description included within the frame. These photographs can be divided into a variety of categories that would include women, men, states, military, etc. Pictures between the era of the 1800s and the 1950s are extremely popular, which can be located at an array of estate sales or auctions.

Other antiques include such items as the a Curry Fly trap that was manufactured in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1916. This was a triangular cage made of galvanized steel, which was covered with screen and on the bottom was a food tray. The main idea behind this invention was that the flies would go in to eat, fly up, and become trapped inside the cage. However, this particular fly trap was not a success, because for one it was not advertised so no one had even heard of it. Another reason was because at the time there were other popular fly traps on the market.

Another popular item that is no longer being manufactured is plug tobacco cutters. Before chewing tobacco and snuff came along plug tobacco was extremely popular, which came in big bricks where individuals could buy an inch or two at a time. The cutters were produced to make the cutting these big bricks easier. A rounded area would house the blade and a lever made the blade move back and forth, then on the base ruler marks were etched to aid with cutting precise amounts. These devises were supplied free of charge by the companies that sold tobacco. These cutters were extremely popular between the 1800s and the 1940s, plus they came in a variety of styles and shapes.

Other antiques that individuals may find of interest include a variety of cheese cutters, irons, rolling pins, shoes, fishing rods, and other various items. Cheese cutters were built out of iron or wood and then at the base the blade would be turned up to where the blade could be brought down to make a clean cut. These were manufactured by a variety of scale companies, who also created a variety of different scales. Old counter scales can date back unto the early 1800s and could basically weigh anything from meat to produce to grain.
