The Different Factors Which Can Cause Insomnia
There are all sorts of things which cause you to be awake through the night. For example, there are many physical factors such as the time you get up in the morning and the time you go to sleep at night along with what time you eat before you retire, which can all affect your sleep patterns. Even taking a look at the mood you are in before going to bed or what is running through your mind may help you to discover exactly what is causing your insomnia.

External Causes of Insomnia
Is your bedroom a place to relax? Or is it simply an extension of your office? If the answer to the latter question is yes, then it could well be your environment which is causing your insomnia. After all, your bedroom should be your sanctuary.
If there are things in your bedroom that stop it from being inviting then you need to straighten things out. Making your bedroom cozier could go a long way towards solving your insomnia problems. The amount of light in your room could also be the answer to what causes insomnia. Invest in blinds or curtains to help you sleep.
Think about how many cups of coffee you have in a day. A cup of coffee or two might be your way of relaxing but more than that in the day is not good for you as well as contributing to your insomnia. Overuse of caffeine and alcohol is one of the chronic insomnia causes.
State of Health and Wellbeing
We have mentioned coffee above but the cause of your insomnia may be much more menacing than this. You could have a recently diagnosed medical condition which is keeping you awake at night.
The diagnosis, not to mention your understanding of the disease, could well be enough to keep you worrying throughout the night and prevent you from sleeping. Medical problems such as heart disease, high blood pressure, and Parkinson's disease are just some of the conditions which cause insomnia.
If you suspect that you have any of these medical conditions then you might need to see a doctor to confirm your suspicions, particularly if your insomnia persists and relaxing before bed doesn't seem to do the trick.
Insomnia is often disregarded as a temporary and trivial thing but it can be a mask for a more serious, undiagnosed situation.
