Method of Functioning of a Rehabilitation Program in Arizona

Jul 15, 2008
The rehabilitation program in Arizona is one of the vital cogs in the machine of the addiction treatment program. This is considered to be one of the most comprehensive forms of treatment that includes several methods to come up with a complete program that can work for people with all kinds of addiction problems. The addiction treatment program in Arizona stresses on rehabilitation treatment as one of the most important aspects of treatment. It is strongly advocated for people who have been with an addiction for over a year and for people who have not been able to find solutions to their addiction problem through other mild programs. Even for people who have some other underlying health problems or psychiatric conditions, the rehabilitation program in Arizona is considered to be one of the best solutions.

The rehabilitation program in Arizona is always an inpatient setting which makes the patient isolated from family and home. This change in atmosphere is needed because one of the integral aspects of the treatment is to make the patient rejuvenate all physical and mental processes so that the effective treatment can be obtained.

Though each rehab center in Arizona will follow a slightly different program, mainly because their theories and their implementations would be different, there are some common points seen across various programs. At its simplest, the rehabilitation treatment in Arizona can be broken down into four phases. These are described below:-

Phase 1 - Overcoming Denial

Most people who will be registered with a rehabilitation treatment program in Arizona will have already come out of their denial process. This is because most of them would have come through an intervention program, which is adequate in itself to help people come over denial of the addiction and take some form of treatment. However, in some patients, this denial may come again when they are in the treatment center. If that happens, the patient won't respond to treatment. For that, the treatment center would need to spend time and effort in getting the patient out of denial once again. For this purpose, the rehab center would definitely take the help of the family members of the patient and the intervention program that they had used.

Phase 2 - Assessment

Once the patient is completely convinced for the treatment, the next step is to conduct a pretreatment analysis of the patient. The patient is led into an evaluative program where they are clinically diagnosed and assessed through interviews. The main things that are found out ere are the nature and extent of the person's addiction, whether the person has been in any other treatment program prior to this, whether the patient has any underlying medication or psychiatric conditions, etc. The main focus here is to estimate how the patient will be able to face the treatment and what kind of treatment program should be used for them.

Phase 3 - Detox

No rehabilitation treatment in Arizona is complete without a detox program. The detox program is the only medical part of the addiction treatment program in the state. This is where the patient is made to stay away from the substance, in complete abstinence, and then the patient is treated for the withdrawal effects that will inevitably occur. This can take a lot of time, depending n the nature of the addiction and how frequently it has been used in the past. The main intention is to remove the poisonous metabolites that the addictive substance may have caused in the body of the person.

Depending on how intensive the addiction is, and its nature, the detox program in Arizona can run from three days to three weeks. Technically, detox will not be considered complete unless and until the person has been completely pulled out of the withdrawal pangs.

Phase 4 - Aftercare

The last step of the rehabilitation treatment in Arizona is the aftercare. This can be done in the center itself, or in another center or even on an outpatient basis. The nature of the aftercare is usually decided on the way the treatment has progressed so far. One of the main aspects of the aftercare is to keep the patient on maintenance medication so that there are no further urges for the substance. Family counseling, especially to train them how to cope with the situation and how to become of substantial support to prevent the person from having a re-addiction, is also a part of the aftercare treatment in most centers.

The main intention of the rehabilitation treatment program in Arizona is to make the patient an active part of society once again, after making them overcome their dependency on the substance. Needless to say, this is a mammoth task and it does take a lot of time and an elaborate program.
