The MENACES Of A Painful Ovarian Cyst

Jul 16, 2008
Most ovarian cysts are simply functional or benign. However, if they are the hemorrhagic kind they can develop into ovarian cysts that cause intense pain. An ovarian cyst is a small enclosed volume within the ovary with fluids inside contained in a thin boundary. A follicle that exceeds by 2cm the size that is normal is categorized as an ovarian cyst. Other ways of referring to a hemorrhagic cyst are haematocyst; blood cyst; and haematocele. A classic sign of a hemorrhagic cyst is the appearance of pain to the right of the abdomen. Bleeding can occur rapidly and extensively and submerge the entire ovary in a short period to induce considerable pain. Such a cyst is the result of a blood vessel in the system rupturing and blood makes its way into the system. The blood in the ovary can then start to produce clots that can be perceived typically by using a sonogram. Sometimes, a hemorrhagic cyst breaks open and releases blood to inundate the abdominal cavity.

The pain may become unacceptable when the cyst breaks. Mercifully, these occurrences are auto-regulating and do not typically necessitate surgical intervention. The right level of health can be restored after a cyst ruptures if the patient takes appropriate rest. It is uncommon for blood to leave the body via the vagina. An effective medicament for the treatment of hemorrhagic cysts is considered to be tetracycline although a physician's advice should always be taken. Upon torsion occurring, another type of painful ovarian cysts can come about. Ovarian torsion is also referred to as adnexal torsion, and is a severe and painful condition that must be urgently dealt with.

Endometriosis can cause endometroid cysts which are formed when a small area of endometrial tissue bleeds and is rejected. The tissue becomes transplanted to another place where it grows bigger. As blood builds up in the tissue it turns a darker shade of brown and is therefore referred to as a chocolate cyst. Upon final rupture of the cyst, the fluids inside can enter the uterus, pelvis and the bowels. Severe and unyielding pain is one of the main symptoms of endometriosis. It is when the cyst breaks that the pain is at its most intolerable.

The same ovarian cells that contribute to the growth of teeth and hair can also form dermoid cysts. This is a rare type of cyst but can grow to a large size and become relatively painful. If multiple follicular cysts are created in the ovaries these are known as polycystic ovaries. This phenomenon also known as polycystic ovarian syndrome interferes with the correct menstruation cycle. PCOS stems the ovulation process causing cysts filled with clear fluid to grow around the ovaries. PCOS is still not fully understood by health care professionals. However, the reasons behind PC OS have been suggested as genetic weaknesses or hormonal insufficiencies. Studies indicate that women with resistance to insulin are more likely to contract PCOS. There is also a tendency for women with ovarian cysts to mix up the symptoms of endometriosis with those of pelvic inflammatory disease.

It is often late in the diagnosis when ovarian cyst torsion is identified which often leads to necrosis or infarction of the cyst. The pain is intense in cases of ovarian torsion even if no cases of death have been recorded. Ovarian cyst torsion can be caused by a number of factors, one common one being anatomic changes. Cyst torsion is frequent for young teenagers with abnormal development such as long fallopian tubes or an absence of mesosalpinx. The presence of a large corpus lustrum during pregnancy increases the risk that the patient will suffer ovarian torsion.

Ovarian cysts whether benign or malignant are all in potential danger of torsion. There is no long-term remedy using prescription medicines for painful ovarian cysts, even if temporary pain alleviation may be gained. There are numerous factors that are involved in the existence of painful ovarian cysts. These factors may either generate cysts or simply worsen the condition of those that already exist. Women who are undergoing infertility treatment with ovulation induction for example are even more menaced. The explanation is that the theca luteum cysts will typically make the volume of the ovaries bigger. A holistic solution however will address the fundamental underlying problem and in this way bring a long lasting solution. Conventional medicine on the other hand only works on the symptoms. Any results are therefore short-lived and may be subject to different side effects. A holistic agenda is a program working at different levels to target all the real reasons that ovarian cysts develop.
