Movers Estimates- What To Look For That Will Save You Money

Jul 18, 2008
If you're young, just got married and are ready to move some stuff into a new house or apartment there are some things you should know first and thoroughly investigate with moving companies and other moving options that will save you a lot of headache and money in the long run. You just need to take some time and not rush into taking the first moving estimate that comes your way. That is when most people end up paying more money than they should have. Don't let it happen to you.

I believe not everyone in business starts out dishonest but somehow it leads to taking advantage of people if given the opportunity. Times are tough on a lot of people and every penny counts when moving. What you need to do is way out your options for the time you have to spare for your move. Do you have to rush at it or take your time packing? This will determine costs for how soon you need to rent a moving truck.

You should always take the time and compare at least 3-5 moving company estimates. This is because not all services are equal to each other. It also is to let you know how one company compares to another in terms of services, prices and schedule. An estimate should clearly describe in writing all charges for services that the mover will perform. Do you know that a mover is not expected to carry items from floor to floor? That's an additional charge as well as moving large or heavy pieces of furniture.

If you have any of these things make sure it is clearly stated on your estimate that a mover is to move these items because just incase these pieces become damages the moving company's liability insurance will cover the repair costs. Another note to the wise is to make sure that on your estimate you clearly stare that you don't ant day labors packing up the moving truck if that's what you decide to do. It's common for companies to do this to save money.

This is a very, and probably the most important part to your estimate, make sure it is signed by you, the mover. Believe it or not it happens. Customers are not asked to sign a contract they are just given a copy that the clerk signs. Never accept any verbal agreements. This is not a contract at that point. It is only binding when you sign it. This way a company can't charge you for additional services they claim they did. Get it in writing for your own protection.
