Is Internet Marketing Worth it?

Jul 18, 2008
It can be daunting if you have a website and have no idea how to get visitors to it, this becomes even more crucial if you are selling something on your website as you need people to make purchases. But how do you get them to your website in the first place? Through clever internet marketing techniques that's how. It is no good going to the trouble of creating a website if you do not have anyone actually looking at it. Many people falsely believe that they can create a website and visitors will, naturally go to it and check it out without any kind of internet marketing being involved. These people are wrong.

Internet marketing is a vital part of driving traffic to your website and can be the difference between a first page ranking on a search engine and not getting ranked at all. When you are creating a website there are things that you need to bear in mind from an internet marketing perspective. Firstly it is important that you use keywords in the body of the text on the site, this will improve the ranking of the site as it will be seen as relevant when a search engines spider indexes it. Keywords are words which relate to topics being searched and their inclusion on a website can dramatically affect its ranking. If you have difficulty in writing content that uses keywords you can use the services of someone who is skilled in this area and many websites employ people purely for this purpose.

Once you have the content of your site you need to make sure that you have submitted your website to search engines to be spidered and indexed, so that when people use the search engine our website will be presented in the SERPs. Failing to do this can mean that your website is never ranked and your internet marketing will have failed. Some search engines offer paid inclusion of websites as a form of internet marketing and you might like to take advantage of this, but you must be prepared to pay the fees involved.

Similarly you can use pay per click advertising as a method of internet marketing. This works by bidding on keywords and having an advert for your website placed alongside searches for certain keywords. If a visitor clicks through the advert onto your website you must pay a fee. PPC is a good way of using internet marketing but your website must generate enough revenue through PPC to make it a viable method to use long term. After all you don't want to pay for people clicking on an advert that does not make you any money.

Using reciprocal links is another useful internet marketing method whereby you have links to and from your site to other reputable sites. This is a method of sharing traffic and can be excellent to drive traffic to your site, but only if the links are quality. Links to and from poor quality sites will result in your traffic slowing down and you could even be accused of link farming, which can result in your website being banned from search engines.

There are many other forms of internet marketing such as emailing campaigns and affiliate marketing but these types of marketing are more specific and can be used for various reasons. Internet marketing is important if you have a website and would like to get traffic to it that will benefit you. So to get increased website hits day in day internet marketing is worth the time and effort spent on it.
