Meaning of Drug Rehabilitation in Oklahoma

Jul 19, 2008
One of the most striking aspects of the program for drug rehabilitation in Oklahoma is that it is really implemented with its full meaning. Contrary to what people think, rehabilitation does not just mean getting a person out of an addiction. The true meaning of rehabilitation is to get the person out of the addiction and into a life of sobriety. The person should be helped to give up the dependency and then must be guided in living an active constructive life without the substance present in it. This is what the drug rehabilitation program in Oklahoma sets out to do and manages it quite well.

This is quite emphatically seen in the juvenile drug rehabilitation in Oklahoma. Young people who are into a dependency do not need the medical treatment as much as they need counseling. Since most of them will not have been in the addiction over a long period of time, there is no chance that there would be a copious accumulation of the toxic substances in their bodies. For that reason, detox is not quite as important. Anyway, young bodies are not able to withstand the strong doses of the medications that are provided during detox, which suits them well because they do not have much of the substance that needs purging from the body.

However, drug rehabilitation in Oklahoma does focus a lot on the more important aspect of juvenile addiction treatment, which is counseling. The counseling begins almost as soon as the person is enrolled into the treatment center and in most cases, it will be conducted even as the patient is undergoing the detox program. The main issue this counseling will try to tackle is to prevent the youngsters from getting into the addiction again. They are emphasized that they will keep getting urges for the substance, but they have to be tenacious enough to shun the temptation. Towards this end, they are trained in methods such as meditation, relaxation and breathing exercises and even in other nonconventional kinds of treatment such as acupressure and aromatherapy. The main intention here is to equip the person enough to make them stay away from any further urges for the substance.

Along with all this, there is one more very important point that is stressed during every program for drug rehabilitation in Oklahoma; and that is becoming an active part of society again. People who complete the inpatient format of treatment are told about how they must join the clubs they left because of the addiction, communicate with their friends again, take up the hobbies and interests they left behind, mingle in constructive social groups, etc. All these things go a long way in making the person keep interested and as long as this happens, there will be a very little chance that the patient would try to get back into an addiction.

It is not just about social rehabilitation; drug rehabilitation in Oklahoma also teaches people about how they can make their lives fruitful for themselves again. They are provided vocational guidance which can help them decide what kind of job they must take. If they had a job earlier, they are trained on how they can take up the same job again. Being engrossed in a career is a surefire way of keeping away from tendencies of a re-addiction.

Here, the families of the patients are also coached on how they can better handle the addiction situation in their young relatives. These could be typically three day counseling programs where the treatment providers will counsel families on how they can cope with the situation and what they can do in order to make the treatment much more meaningful and effective to the young people. This helps them to ensure that a relapse into the addiction does not occur.

In this manner, the drug rehabilitation program in Oklahoma does not just provide a program that can be standardized to fit any patient with any kind of addiction, but it provides specific solutions so that the person can become useful to society once again. More than anything else, this is what brings the person back to a normal sober life.

So when you are looking for drug rehabilitation in Oklahoma, make sure that you get a treatment center that has a very elaborate aftercare program. This is important because this is the part of the treatment that will really decide how good or bad their recovery would be.
